令和３年度は、タスク・ベースの言語指導 (task-based language teaching, 以下、TBLT)の理論的枠組みの整理、タスクシラバスの開発、指導法の検討を行った。まず、一定期間TBLTプログラムを行いその効果について調査した研究と、個々のタスクが文脈の中でどのように機能するかを調査した研究の2つの観点から先行研究を収集し、どのような文脈でどのような指導が行われているのか、どのような観点からデータが収集・分析されているのか、どのような結果が得られているのかについて検討した。その結果、TBLTプログラム全体の効果というプロダクトの視点と、プログラム中何が起きているのかというプロセスの視点の両方からTBLTプログラムの効果を検証した研究は限られており、プロダクトとプロセスの両方の視点からTBLTプログラムの効果を検証する必要性が明らかになった。また、日本の文脈で行われた研究については、TBLTを実践した事例は多々見られるものの、プログラム全体の効果やタスク遂行のプロセスを体系的に研究したものは限られており、日本の文脈におけるこれらの研究の必要性が明らかになった。
その後、タスクの開発と指導法の検討を行った。具体的には、理工系の題材を用いた絵描写タスク、ジグソータスク、協働ライティングタスクをそれぞれ2種類ずつ作成した。また、プログラム評価をどのような観点から行うかについて検討し、測定具の開発を行った。その後、作成した測定具とタスクを用いて予備調査を実施し、データを収集した。収集したデータは学習者の気づきや機械翻訳の使用といった側面から分析が行われた。また、予備調査の結果をもとに本調査の計画を検討し、測定具の調整を行った。 -
英語教師の成長を促す実践共有コミュニティ構築プロセスの解明

本研究の目的は、英語教師の質的向上を目指すための実践を、共同的に省察するコミュニティのあり方に着目し、他者と実践を共有する上で直面する課題を明らかにし、実践を共有するコミュニティの構築過程メカニズムを整理することで、英語教師の成長を促すコミュニティのあり方について具体的方策を提案することにある。
令和2年度は、文献研究として、教師による省察と省察的実践の理論と課題を踏まえて、英語教育における教師の協働的省察の可能性について検討した。また、各自がそれぞれの文脈で実践研究を継続するとともに、新たな実践（研究）共有コミュニティを立ち上げた。実践（研究）共有コミュニティでは、実践研究を行う上での授業の見方・考え方、協働的省察の方法、メンターの関わり方について探究することを目的とした。研究課題は、以下のとおりである。講座運営の成功要因及び課題は何か。講座において教師は、協働的省察を通してどのような学びがあるか。メンターの支援のあり方はどのようなものであるべきか。
具体的には、実践研究入門講座及び半年間の実践研究連続講座（第1期）を実施した。実践研究連続講座の6回のテーマは、第1回問いを立てよう、第2回データのタイプを知ろう、第3回データを収集しよう、第4回データ分析をしよう、第5回データの解釈をしようであり、第6回は実践研究の進捗状況を報告するため、公開発表会を行った。実践研究連続講座には9名が参加し、科研のメンバーがメンターとして共同で実践研究連続講座の運営を実施した。実践共有コミュニティを運営する意義や課題、参加者の学びと協働的省察、メンターのあり方について明らかにするために、講座の録画、参加者とメンターの振り返りの記録、フォーカス・グループによるデータ収集を行った。 -

This study investigated the effectiveness of blended learning―which combines face-to-face teaching and web-based training―on general education courses at the National Institute of Technology. Developing web-based teaching materials for basic engineering English, remedial English, and make-up basic math classes, this study incorporated them into face-to-face classes and investigated their effectiveness. The results showed that blended-learning practices enabled learners to study at their own pace without the restriction of time and location. The blended-learning approach was also helpful for learners to develop a habit of studying at home. On the other hand, it was revealed that teachers need to deal with problems that are specific to web-based training, such as slow web-based materials. Setting clear goals for face-to-face teaching and web-based training was also essential for implementing an effective blended-learning practice.

This study focused on practitioner research methods in English-language education. The study revealed the issues that practitioners face in practitioner research regarding research methods and organized appropriate research methods that practitioners can employ based on the purpose of their research. Concrete practitioner research methods were presented in order to encourage English teachers to conduct beneficial research of their practice. In this study, practitioner research was defined as systematic research undertaken by a teacher on their own initiative in order to deepen understating of their practice or improve their teaching. As a result, the suggestions presented herein seek to organize practitioner research methods with the ultimate aim of enriching the body of practitioner research.

In this study, we discussed the learning of liberal arts as a motivator for NIT students. We pointed out NIT students would need to imagine how liberal arts learning would be useful in their future, especially at their workplaces. Accordingly, we illuminated how the learning of liberal arts would inspire their interests. Our main points are as follows: first, we maintained the learning of technical English could allow students to seek their own identity as global engineers through the English presentation learning or the learning for ‘English Technical Writing Test'. Second, we succeeded in designing a new subject, ‘Human Beings and Society' for NIT students. Third, we demonstrated a learning application software developed by some NIT students who were partly inspired by the liberal arts learning. As an achievement, both one foreign student and NIT (KOSEN), Fukui College received prizes for the distinct excellence by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

The purpose of this study is (1) to conduct a needs analysis that explores the target task-types that learners at the National Institute of Technology will face in their school life and/or workplace, and (2) to construct pedagogic tasks based on the needs analysis and examine the effectiveness of these task-based lessons in terms of learners’ affective aspect. As a result of the needs analysis, 15 target task types related to affiliation, socializing, business, research, engineering, and learning English were reported. On the basis of the needs analysis, three cycles of action research were conducted targeting fourth-year students. Although no remarkable improvements were found in terms of learners’ unwillingness to communicate, teachers' field notes and learners’ comments on reaction papers revealed that learners enjoyed and enthusiastically engaged in task-based lessons, which they felt were practical and useful for their future.
