The Ding Medical Series should not be limited to the Ding Fubao’s translation, but rather include all the documents related to medicine, hygiene, and health preservation, some translated by the outsiders and published by the Ding. From the point of view of the Ding Shi Medical Series in the broad sense, this paper confirms the existence of 237 types of medical books related to the Ding Fubao’s translation, compilation, and publication by using databases and library materials. Among those, 182 are the statistics of previous studies, which were verified again as a part of this survey, and the errors within them were corrected. As a result, 55 new types were found and 35 original text types were confirmed.

The translation feature of ZhuShiChanPoXue is to be faithful to the original text, and try to use the kanji terms used in the original text, even if the kanji and katakana terms in the original text refer to the same thing, the Chinese characters are used uniformly. This method of translation maximizes the Chinese terms in the original text into China. Of course, the terms of the original "Simple Midwife Study" not only reuse traditional Chinese terms, but also absorb the translation of orchidist in Japan and missionaries in China, has formed a system. Therefore, if these terms were introduced into China unchanged, it would be equivalent to systematically introducing the terms of modern Japanese science of production into China.

Ding Fubao's (丁福保 ; 1874-1952) translation in 1908 of Takenaka Seiken's (竹中成憲 ; 1864-1925) Kani sanbagaku 簡易産婆学 (Simple Midwife Studies) entitled Zhushi chanpoxue 竹氏産婆学, is the first early modern technical book on obstetrics translated into Chinese from Japan. The book went through six printings, a testimony to its great influence. Takenaka's book is closely related to Sanba shiken kisoku (産婆試験規則 Rules for Midwifery Examinations), published in 1899. This book was written when Takenaka was a lecturer at the Hokkaido Office's public maternity school. The book was designed to help students pass the midwife examination, which was introduced in Japan in 1899, and focused on the practical training of midwives, while distinguishing them from physicians. This book is an outcome of the ongoing localization of the introduction of Western obstetrics in modern Japan, and is one of the key reasons Ding Fubo chose to translate Kani sanbagaku from Japanese into Chinese.
