The purpose of this study was to clarify the features of clinical psychologists' work engagement as well as to consider their relationship with self-efficacy, coping strategies, the presence of family members, support offered from colleagues and job satisfaction. A questionnaire was administered to 137 clinical psychologists. Results indicated that the work engagement of clinical psychologists tended to be higher than that of workers in general, and than that of other interpersonal assistance professionals. The high work engagement could be related to self-efficacy, active problem solving, support from colleagues, job satisfaction and the presence of children.

This study aimed to clarify the relationships between young university students' adjustment, internal working models, and type A behavior patterns. A questionnaire survey was completed by 243 university students. The results indicated that university students with steady human relationships adjusted to the university's environment, and those who felt insecure about others or avoided human relationships were uncomfortable and had a sense of inferiority. According to previous research, type A behavior patterns consist of "aggression hostility (AH)," "hard driving-time urgency (HT)" and "speed-power (SP)." In our study, it was revealed that type A behavior patterns were not always a factor in inadaptability. Students who had moderate HT and SP adjusted to university life.

University students are surrounded by many kinds of stressors in their daily lives. Studies have recently shown that students' stress recognition methods affect their stress responses. We developed a scale targeting 156 university students to find how they recognize stress. This study focused on positive recognition to clarify the connection between stress responses, coping, and knowledge of stress. The results show that people who recognize stress positively have fewer mental responses than those who do not, and that they usually use emotion-focused coping strategies. They also have a wealth of knowledge about stress, and had more opportunities for stress education in school. In other words, these results suggest the possibility that stress recognition improves mental health states, and that learning about stress in educational institutions gradually helps students recognize stress positively.

This study aimed to clarify the relationship between young female university students' images of menstruation，the degree to which they are educated about menstruation，their coping behaviors during menstruation，and their social support systems. A questionnaire survey was completed by 107 female university students. Results suggest that respondents were more likely to have formed a positive image of menstruation when they were informed about effective coping behaviors and had support from others， such as family. It is also clear that education from parents， guidance from medical experts，such as physicians，and an understanding of menstruation gained through self-study contributed to the formation of a positive image of menstruation.

Aaron Antonovsky, who was a health sociologist, investigated factors that promoted health and then published these results as the salute genetics-oriented theory. This theory is useful for health promotion for Japanese living in stressful environments. At this article, we discussed health promotion programs based on the salute genetics-oriented model. It was concluded that the programs were constructed of three elements: education about the salute genetics-oriented and general stress models, self-understanding of "sense of coherence" (SOC), and improvement of SOC.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the psychological factors that affect premenstrual symptoms among female university students. A questionnaire comprising items assessing premenstrual symptoms, subjective well-being, and menstrual attitude was administered. Results suggest that higher subjective well-being and positive menstrual attitude were associated with decreased premenstrual symptoms. We think that improving subjective well-being and having a positive menstrual attitude is effective in the reduction of premenstrual symptoms.

The changes in mental and physical conditions during the menstrual cycle occur due to not only biological but also psychological or social factors. Our recent study with female university students suffering from premenstrual symptoms showed that subjective evaluations of symptom strength were related to negative cognition about menses. We intend to develop an educational program for students with these symptoms based on a cognitive therapy model, and consisting of five sessions. We expect that the reduction of symptoms will enrich students' academic life, career seeking behavior, and social involvement after graduation. We expect that symptom reduction will contribute to preventing premenstrual syndrome, starting at about 30 years old, and improving women's quality of life over their lifetimes.

Developing the "Power to Live" has become an objective in recent education. The objectives of this study was to construct a scale to measure the educational effects of the three domains of the "Power to Live": "evident academic ability", "enriched mind", "healthy body" in addition to "reliable school and district", and to analyze the interactions among these four domains. The pre-questionnaire was constructed by items extracted from interviews with school teachers. Factor analysis was used on the results of the pre-questionnaire survey and demonstrated a mono-factor structure in each domain. According to factor loadings in items, the following factors were designated; "ability to form reliable learning"; "feeling of self-esteem", "orientation for health" and "positive feelings for school". "Feeling of self-esteem" was strongly related to the three other scales. These results showed that feelings of self-esteem influence the "Power to Live".

Objectives: The purpose of this research is to clarify the relationship to premenstrual symptoms and resilience, social supports, or images of menstruation, coping in female college students. Method: 296 college students answered the questionnaire constructed by 82 items. Results: The results of analyzing the questionnaire data showed that, students with psychological complaints tend to be influenced by resilience, social supports etc, to have negative cognition for menstruation, and to choose passive copings. To the contrary, students with physical complaints tend not to be influenced by them, and to have positive cognition and copings for menstruation because they receive frequent medical examinations. Conclusion: It is necessary for the therapist to construct reliable relationships to students with psychological complaints, and to change their negative cognition to positive cognition by counseling. It is important that we increase social supports by the enlightenment on premenstrual symptoms.

Objectives: Conventionally, it is reported that there are few people who are aware of a connection between premenstrual symptoms and menstruation in young females. However, young females who suffer from premenstrual symptoms are increasing recently. The purpose of this study is to investigate frequency of premenstrual symptoms and to construct scales with the symptoms. Method: 110 items with premenstrual symptoms were collected from precedent studies and a questionnaire relating to the symptoms was made up. The questionnaire by self-report was carried out to 184 college school girls. Results: More than 60% of the subjects were aware of stomachache or irritation on premenstrual phase. On the contrary, some 10% of the subjects had positive cognition of unpleasant symptoms on premenstrual phase. As a result of having made a factor analysis, six factors about the symptoms or cognition were extracted. The six factors were named as "depressive states", "lack of concentrations", "unpleasantness for the menstruation", "physical complaints", "positive cognition for the symptom" and "hormone-related symptoms" respectively. These factors are important as we construct a scale of premenstrual states in young females. Conclusion: This study suggested that even young females often suffer from premenstrual symptoms. In addition, it raises a new point of view for studies of premenstrual symptoms that some young females have positive cognition of premenstrual state. We will clarify the traits of young females with positive cognition of unpleasant symptoms, and develop the care or support for young females suffering from premenstrual symptoms.

こころの問題の予防的な取り組みの一貫として実施しているグループ活動の効果を検討するために、参加した学生116名に初回と最終回のセッションで質問紙調査を実施した。その結果、グループ参加後に精神的健康度は向上する傾向が認められ、またSOCの精神的健康度への影響性が高まる傾向が認められた。

精神的健康度とボディーイメージの関連を明らかにするため、大学生168名と、心理相談室へ来談した学生30名を対象に質問紙調査を実施した。女子学生において関連が認められ、通所群は性的魅力やプロポーションなどに不満を抱きやすく、ボディーイメージに対する自己評価の低さが精神的健康に影響を与えることが示された。

大学生の飲酒と喫煙行動について、クラブ活動、アルバイト状況、精神的健康度などとの関連について、1539名にアンケート調査を実施した。クラブ活動は飲酒行動を、アルバイトは飲酒、喫煙行動を促進し、精神的健康度が低い者は毎日飲酒の比率が健康度の高い者に比して高率であった。健康教育を行うことで適正飲酒や非喫煙習慣を身につける必要があることが示された。

治療を進めながら大学生活を送った統合失調症の1事例について検討した。学生相談機関は学生生活支援及び心理療法を、医療機関は投薬治療を、家族は日常生活支援を継続的に行い、それらの援助が奏効し、卒業することができた。学生相談機関で個別ガイダンス的援助を行うことが、円滑な学生生活を送るために有効であることが示された。
