    In modern cities, the deterioration of the heat environment in urban areas and the increase in the number of heat stroke victims caused by extreme heat are social problems.The local government provided us with detailed information on outdoor heat stroke damage.The heat conditions in the streets were estimated by numerical simulation using QGIS.These were compared, and the results were used to determine the level of heat stroke risk.As a result, we were able to show that MRT<sub>hour</sub>, which is the time integration of MRT distribution in the city, is effective in indicating the degree of risk of heat stroke.Furthermore, by using the location information of cell phones as pedestrian information, we were able to extract the danger zone of Sannomiya.

    We studied on texture analysis of SAR data by use of JERS1 SAR and LANDSAT ETM+. The Information entropy is applied to calculate a degree of mixture of texture. And differences of value on each land coverage is discussed in varying window sizes. Furthermore Principal Component Analysis, in which 5 bands of Landsat data, SAR's digital number and 3 types of entropy distribution are adopted as factors, had been exploited to evaluate entropy distributions' significance on being used in combination with optical sensor like LANDSAT ETM+ for the sake of extracting urban land surface characteristics.

    The purpose of this study is to make clear the relationship between Land Use Zoning and green coverage ratio in urbanized city. The subject area was selected in Sakai City, Osaka. The statistical difference of NVl between the low-floor area ratio and other parts, the low-building coverage ratio and other parts are clear. And NVl of each zone is under the influence of the distance from city center area to each zone. The results of this study show that there is the possibility to lead green area ratio in urbanized city by Land use Zoning.

    The purpose of this study is to make clear the relation between Land Use Zoning Regulations and Green Coverage Ratio in Japanese urbanized city. It is probable that Land Use Zoning Regulations has an influence on Green Coverage Ratio for its restrictions to building form and use. However, this relation is not clear. For creating and protecting green area in urbanized city, it is important to consider the influence brought by land use zones. The study area was selected in Sakai City, Osaka, Japan. Green Coverage Ratios of past 3 terms in the study area were estimated by satellite remote sensing data (LANDSAT5-TM data), and its changes were analyzed statistically using GIS. The results of this study show that there are some tendencies of Estimated Green Coverage Ratio's change in each land use zones. And this means the possibility to take control of Green Coverage Ratio in urbanized city and give supports to the establishment of the green area-related laws by Land Use Zoning Regulations. © 2003, Architectural Institute of Japan.     The aim of this study is to estimate distribution of meteorological factors in high resolution in order to thermally evaluate a land use in urban area. In this study, distributions of monthly mean average, maximum and minium air temperature were estimated by using 3 layered back propagation neural network system. The input data sets for this neural network system were (1) height above sea level, (2) normalized vegetation index, which was calculated by using LANDSAT TM data and (3) distance from seashore. The supervised data set for learning were meteorological data observed at 30 stations around the Osaka Bay. R^2 value and the sum total of error show a sufficient accuracy of this method with neural network system in comparison with the estimating method with multiple regression, which we have used before. The addition of distance from sea shore was recognized to improve an accuracy an estimation of air temperature both in sea side area and in inland area. After checking the over learning problem on the neural network system, distribution of monthly mean minimum air temperature around the Osaka Bay was drawn by this method.

    In summer daytime, air temperature under the large green canopy is lower than its surroundings. We call this space "Cool Spot". Some sets of meteorological elements were measured in and around urban parks in Osaka in August 1992 to clear thermal effects of green canopy. The correlation between the cool spot effect and the length of green canopies, wind speed, the ground surface temperature and eddy diffusivity were examined. Finally a simple model was proposed to predict the cool spot effect.

    Urban surface albedo, which is one of the important factors of the urban heat island phenomenon, was used to evaluate urban land use regulations. Broadband albedo at the surface level of Sakai City, Japan, was calculated, and effects of land use regulations and actual land use were estimated using satellite remote sensing data, a land use regulation map and detailed digital information expressing actual land use. Land use regulations define land use, maximum building coverage ratios and maximum floor area ratios, which relate the heights of buildings to the areas of their sites. These factors have effects upon broadband albedo and each narrowband albedo corresponding to wavelengths observed by Landsat ETM+. Albedo values differed according to land use regulation zones. The combination of land use regulation and actual land use is also meaningful in grasping urban surface albedo. But this relationship may provide only slight insight into the urban heat island phenomenon. © 2005, Architectural Institute of Japan. All rights reserved.

    The thermal environments of the three types of urban blocks were observed on the street in Osaka in the summer season. Air temperature and surface temperature of each urban block were high in comparison with Osaka Castle Park. Temperature differences of urban blocks in the daytime were bigger than those in the early morning.     This study is a part of investigations, which is concerned with urban heat island research in Okinawa. In order to clarify the ventilation system of a traditional house in Japan, which is supposed effective to cool the severe summer thermal conditions, we were subjected to measurement of indoor climate in summer at the national important cultural property Nakamura House in Okinawa (built in 18c.). We measured wind speeds and directions at eight points in the attic and seven points on the ground floor of the house, using the three dimensional sonic anemometer. As the result, large amount of air exchange between the ground floor and attic space under the roof, which causes mitigate the thermal environment in the attic. We also carried out numerical simulations to evaluate the several openings in the roof and effect of heat in the furnace.

    Realizing a low-carbon society is our urgent necessity. In order to achieve this goal, in our branch of architecture dealing with a way of using energy, challenges are required to convert to use the renewable resources. Our aim is to establish a simple and easy prediction method for architects to estimate a prospective amount of geothermal energy. We found a collection of underground temperatures archives, which is compiled by Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and Japan Meteorological Agent (JMA) in 1982. With this database (recorded 1932-1948), we reexamined hypotheses about underground temperature. We confirmed the followings.- We could not find isothermal layer among 0 – 5 meters depth.- Underground temperature was the deeper, the smaller in annual variation.- The averages of underground temperature at each depth at each observatory were almost equal (average difference was 0.9 degrees).- The delays of peak temperature appearance at 5 meters depth in comparison with the surface layer were 3.3 months in average.- Average annual underground temperatures were higher than Average annual air temperatures (The differences was 1.7 degrees in average).

    The purpose of our research is to evaluate roof tiles as cool roofs. In part1 of our articles, we inspected the physical properties of several kinds of Japanese roof tiles. In part2, we reexamine the Japanese roof tile production methods in order to produce ideal environment conscious roof tile.We manufactured several kinds of roof tiles by different methods and compared thermal performance of them by the following 2 ways.(1) We computed thermal conductivity and water absorption rate by a laboratory experiment. The roof tiles fired in lower temperature had smaller thermal conductivity and larger water absorption rate than the ones fired in higher temperature.(2) We measured surface temperature with mock-up in external environment. After rainfall, surface temperature of the roof tiles containing more air didn’t rise so much.As a result, the roof tiles manufactured by traditional methods tended to have better thermal performance than the ones by current methods.

    Sea breeze is regarded as the decisive factor to improve summer thermal environment in coastal urban area in Japan. According to the result of previous researches with numerical simulations, a strong ascending air current blocks the inland penetration of the sea breeze. To mitigate urban environment with sea breeze, the information of ascending currents is really important. To visualize updrafts, I used images from satellites, which show distributions of cumulus that give information of ascending current locations. In the same satellite images, boundary line of cumulus clouds along a coast can be acquired. The frontline of cumulus is regarded as sea breeze front. By using data from meteorological observations, I conformed the relation between the cumulus boundary line and the sea breeze front, and patterns of the inland penetrations of the sea breeze in Osaka area. As the result of meteorological observations, the inland penetration of the sea breeze into the central east of Osaka delays in comparison with other area in Osaka. From the result of estimation with satellite data, mean land surface temperatures under the ascending current in the central east of Osaka is estimated to be higher than other area by around 20 degrees centigrade. The higher land surface temperature in the central east of Osaka helps accounts for the result of the delay of the inland penetration of sea breeze into this area. In conclusion, construction methods to keep land surface in lower temperature is very important to mitigate thermal conditions by using sea breezes.

    Based on the prediction results of future climate in several cities of Germany and Japan, urban environmental climate map was created, and the potential image of the adaptation city was discussed through the expert collaboration workshop by urban planning and climate experts. In the final year, we carried out expert collaborative workshops in Karlsruhe, Essen, Berlin in Germany and Kobe in Japan. We examined the adaptive urban design guidelines and exchanged information and opinions with the experts in this field, and discussed the direction and issues of the study toward the realization of the adaptation city. The followings were discussed; citizen's sense of outdoor environment and green, roles of government and citizens for the green maintenance, collaboration between government, university and company for the practice of measure.

    We made clear that water absorption and thermal conductivity of roof tile have a strong relationship between the fineness and components of clay, burning temperature and accuracy of molding through the mock-up experiments and test-piece analysis. And the traditional tiled roof of the Nakamura House, which is the oldest house in Okinawa and one of important cultural assets, has various vent devices based on the combination of regional materials in Okinawa. This porous roof is the determinant of cool and confortable environment in the house without the air conditioner.

    The idea of PDCA cycle was applied to the countermeasures of heat island with simulation study sub-system. It was constructed on the web system. (1) The countermeasure methods of heat island was filed up, and the database was constructed. (2) The heat island phenomenon in Osaka region was simulated using MM5 and WRF model. The climate improvement methods were able to evaluate by the construction. (3)The database system of observation was constructed under cooperating with some universities for monitoring. (4) The system is operate and the improvement points were to be clear by evaluating through the questionnaire and hearing.

    1. The preparation of the land use data that the arrangement of the weather data to verity the input data of the numerical simulation and a result of a calculation, using satellite remote sensing data, was done. Specially, the improvement of the boundary condition was done by making the distribution of the Albedo and the evaporating using satellite remote sensing data. And, it was examined about the precision of the earth surface heat budget calculation between the actual complicated surface boundary and the simplification by the model.
    2. The numerical calculation of meso-scale Mellor-Yamada type (level 2.5) model for the whole area of Kinki district was used for and the detail numerical simulation of Kobe city by nesting method were done, and the peculiar wind of the characteristics of the land and sea breezes, the circumference of Mt Rokko and so on was cleared.
    3. Detailed actual measurement investigation was done at Soma-valley mountain stream circumference built-up area in Kobe city in summer to explain the mechanism of the cold air that drain out from the valley of Mt Rokko into the built-up area and effect on city area cooling. Cooling Effect on built-up arca of the cold air drainage was confirmed, and a change in a time target of the cold air was examined from the relation with the geographical features. Moreover, the influence of the geographical features was taken by shallow water equation model, and the condition that the cold air drainage was modeled, and the calculation of the thickness of the cold air and the drain speed was done. It was sufficient in utility as that result to grasp the characteristics of the cold air drainage on the complex geographical features.
    4. The application area was set up in Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto, and a calculation for 3 city was done by making the territory which it focused on by nesting method. A result of a calculation was compared with a result of observation of the observation office of the air pollution, and calculation precision was confirmed. A result of a calculation was prepared as a typical temperature and wind distribution database of summer, and put in order so that it could use it as the foundation data such as a boundary condition to do detailed thermal environmental simulation from now on in this area.

    In Japan, most houses are made of wood. This results seismic fires as one of the biggest disaster among other damages. As for the city, it changes its structure every year, the enormous time and the expense are necessary to build and to maintain the fundamental data base which is necessary to draft a plan of the protection against disasters and so on. The purpose of this study is to develop the technique to estimate built-up area wooden percentage using the remote sensing data. Here, wooden building ratio is a coverage percentage by wooden buildings for every unit.
    The technique to estimate wooden percentage by this study is as follows. As for the wooden building, thermal capacity is small compared with the other kind of building structure. As the result, the pattern of the change of the surface temperature is different. This study aimed at this face and develop a method to estimate a wooden building ratio in urban. The satellite is doing observation with twice at 10 AM and 9 AM. Using these two sets of satellite date, the change pattern with surface temperature can be examined. In comparison between the thermal characteristics which can be seen from the two satellite data and the structural characteristics in the built-up area, the wooden building percentage will be obtained. It compared between the estimated result and the statistical value which made by a local government. By this comparison, the estimated precision was found as enough. When the green coverage percentage was large, the tendency which surface temperature change became smaller than when factual was obtained. Some example to be wooden and to mis-distinguish between the building and so on were seen in the subject area.
    The satellite data gave information with the texture which is smaller than with statistical value which gathered in the unit of street. In the investigation which used a statistical value, it overlooked up to this in the small critical section in the processing. It is expected that the discovery of the critical section becomes possible when using satellite data.

  • リモートセンシングデータを用いた市街地延焼危険地区の抽出手法に関する研究

    1. 兵庫県南部地震の被災地域である阪神地域(神戸市、芦屋市、西宮市)を対象として、地震火災規模と震災前の緑被率、建ぺい率等市街地特性との相関を分析した。
    (1) 町下目別市街地情報集計データより求めた市街地特性値(木造率、老朽建物率、容積率及び人口密度)と火災規模との相関を分析した結果、木造率、老朽建物率との相関が見られた。
    (2) 空中写真による建ぺい率、緑被率に関する詳細な読みとり分析の結果、焼失面積の大きな火災において、高い建ぺい率と低い緑被率との関係が認められた。
    (3) ランドサットTMより求めた正規化植生指標(NVI)を緑被率に換算して火災規模との関係を見た結果では、低い緑被率の地域の火災に大規模火災が多いことが認められた。
    2. 兵庫県南部地震の直後に大きな延焼火災が発生した神戸市の長田地区と東灘地区を対象に、ランドサットTMデータを用いて制約条件付き最小自乗法により緑被率を求め、緑被率の分布と延焼火災区域との対応を考察した。まず、制約条件付き最小自乗法による土地被覆率の推定方法で比較的精度の高い緑被率を求め、2次元重み付き移動平均による緑被率の地域平均による評価方法を検討した。その結果を用いて、緑被率と大規模延焼火災の発生地域との関係を考察し、緑被率の低い地域に大規模延焼火災が生じていたことを具体的な場所により示した。

  • 2年次生を対象とした「室内気候学」は、建築計画の基盤である。受動的教育から、主体的学習への転換を目標に、獲得すべき到達点を明示し、目的意識を持って講義にのぞめるよう配慮している。また主要な単元終了時に、理解・到達度を自己確認するための小テストを実施している。

Teaching materials

  • 講義は、理論的学習と、応用的、実用的な練習課題から構成し、進めるようにしている。低炭素社会、スマートタウン、エコロジー建築設計など、環境分野の変化は著しいため、別途補足教材を作成・配布している。また『はじめての環境デザイン学』(理工図書)、『都市・まちづくり学入門』(学芸出版社)(共に共著)を出版し、参考書としている。

Special notes on other educational activities

  • 「特別研究」は、春に他大学との研究交流合宿を行っている。また環境に対して一般市民の感心も高く、主に行政との共同で、学生による市民向けセミナー、イベントなどを、過去の実績で年2?3回程度企画・実施している。卒業直前、3月中旬に行われる空気衛生・調和工学会に、原則として全員、卒業研究を基に口頭発表を行っている。大学院進学者は、上記に加えて、日本建築学会大会での口頭発表などを行っている。
