    We propose a Healthy Eating Habits Support System (HEHSS) which considers user taste preferences and nutritional balance. The proposed system comprises a Nutritional Management System (NMS) and a Kansei Retrieval System (KRS). The NMS generates nutritionally balancedmenus using the tabu searchmethod. The KRS learns user taste preferences through interaction with a user, and then uses this information to recommend appropriate menus for that user from those generated by the NMS. Consequently, the HEHSS recommends menus that consider nutritional balance and match the user's taste preferences. Simulation results demonstrate that the HEHSS recommended menus that satisfied nutritional needs and learned a user's taste preferences with greater than 80% accuracy when we focused on liked and disliked tastes after continuous use for a long period (approximately 2 months).

    We propose a Kansei retrieval agent (KRA) model with fuzzy reasoning as the basis for a Kansei retrieval system. In our system, the KRA learns user preferences on the basis of user evaluation of items from a large database. The system employs fuzzy reasoning for the KRA model to express user preferences by using the if-then rules and obtains user preferences using linguistic information. The proposed method optimizes membership function parameters, i.e., the center values and kurtosis of fuzzy reasoning, via user evaluation of various items by using a genetic algorithm. We performed a numerical simulation to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. In the simulation, we used pseudo users instead of real users and examined the evolutionary performance of the KRA with the proposed method. The results showed that the proposed method was effective in learning user evaluation criteria.

    In this paper, we construct Kansei retrieval of clothing. This system is designed to search for user's clothing preference by considering their Kansei. Then, this system uses features of clothing images. In previous study, the features were 20 bits and extracted by image processing. However, these features aren't enough for Kansei retrieval. So, our proposal is Kansei retrieval of clothing on the basis of the features extracted automatically. This system is constructed with two neural networks. The first neural network is deep neural network that extracts the features. The second neural network identifies user's evaluation of clothing using the features. In this study, we verified the effectiveness of this system by a simulation. Result of the simulation showed this system was superior to the previous study in 46.65% increasing accuracy of imitating user's Kansei and 30.43% decreasing error of Kansei retrieval. Thus, the effectiveness of the proposed system was confirmed.

    We propose a system to create designs that reflect multiple user preferences. When creating such designs, it is important to collect a significant number of user opinions and adopt them in the designs. However, as the number of users increases, the collection of opinions becomes more difficult. Therefore we propose a system using the paired comparison voting (PCV) method and digital signage. The PCV method obtains preferences from multiple users by voting. The proposed system presents designs for users using digital signage. Thus, the proposed system creates designs that please multiple users. Here, we experiment using the proposed system and demonstrate its effectiveness with real users. The experimental results show that the created designs became similar visually and genetically. As a result, we verified that the proposed system creates designs reflecting the preferences of multiple people.

    In this study, we verify the effectiveness of a sympathy expression model for a bystander robot that we have proposed. Because the social nature of a robot is important for communicating with multiple people, we focus on a robot that is in a bystander position, which is unrelated to the communication between participants. In our proposed model, the bystander can express emotions cooperatively in a group by learning the expressiveness of others. To test this, we assume an interaction of three robots using a neural network-based emotion generation model. The bystander learns moral emotions on the basis of its emotions from the communication between a speaker and an addressee. We verify the effectiveness of the model using a psychological model to evaluate the bystander from the position of the speaker.

    Existing music recommendation systems don't suit user subjectivity and are not naturally intuitive. We previously proposed a music recommendation system to address these problems. Our music recommendation system uses Kansei agents and a Kansei retrieval system. The Kansei agents employ a Kansei model and are characterized by a three-layered neural network. Music fluctuation properties are defined as inputs to the neural networks of the Kansei agents. Our previously proposed system returns recommendations based on user subjectivity. However, this system incurs significant user evaluation load. In this study, we introduce a distributed genetic algorithm (DGA) as an optimization method to address this problem. We compare the proposed DGA method to our previous method by simulation. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DGA method significantly outperforms previous method.

    We describe the effectiveness of a Kansei Retrieval Agent (KRA) model with Neural Network (NN) for retrieving user preference data. Our system evaluates KRAs using the user's evaluation and optimizes the KRA parameters using an evolutionary computation approach. While our previous study involved Kansei retrieval systems for T-shirts or music, the basic optimization performance of a KRA with NN was not examined. Therefore, in the present study, we investigate the effectiveness of the KRA model with an NN using numerical simulations. The simulation uses a pseudo user that imitates user preferences. We examine the quantization of evaluation values by the user and KRAs and compares the performances obtained using the particle swarm optimization and genetic algorithm methods. The simulation results show that the KRA model can learn user preferences.

    In this study, we propose a multimedia retrieval system framework using the Kansei retrieval agent (KRA) model to retrieve multimedia data. Our previous study involved recommender systems using the KRA model with reciprocal evaluation of each KRA and a hidden KRA model to optimize agent parameters; however, our previous method uses an interactive genetic algorithm (IGA) to optimize these parameters. Therefore, the performance and runtimes decreases with larger inputs. Then, in the present study, we use a hybrid IGA and simulated evolution (SimE) algorithm to improve optimization performance. Moreover, our proposed method employs rearrangement evaluation of multimedia data to reduce the evaluation load of users. Furthermore, we have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method via a numerical simulation using a pseudo-user that imitates user preferences. Our simulation results show that optimization performance of the proposed method is substantially higher than that of our previous method.

    This study proposes a clothing-image retrieval system that considers a user's kansei, i.e., the user's emotional, physical, and aesthetical preferences. The system gradually learns the user's kansei by repeated interaction with the user, and can then search for corresponding clothing images. The practicality of the proposed system is confirmed in experiments with real users. It is found that the proposed system can retrieve clothing images that corresponded to the user's kansei.

    We verify the performance of the Kansei model in the Healthy Eating Habits Support System (HEHSS). In a previous study, we reported HEHSS, which considers user taste and health. In HEHSS, an NPD Kansei model expresses user taste. The model expresses P (Positive: like) taste, N (Negative: dislike) taste, and D (Don't care: neutral) taste for all items that make up recipes. The model then evaluates recipes on behalf of the user. To consider user taste, the NPD Kansei model must express user taste appropriately. However, in our previous study, we did not confirm the effectiveness of expressing user taste with the NPD Kansei model. Here, we verify the effectiveness of the model by performing an evaluation experiment using real users. The experimental results show that the NPD Kansei model is effective for expressing user taste.

    In this paper, we propose an emotion model with growth functions for robots. Many emotion models for robots have been developed using Neural Networks (NN), which focus on the functions of emotion recognition, control, and expression. One problem that affects these emotion models for robots is the development of a "simplified" emotion generation algorithm. Users readily lose interest in "simple" systems. Most models have attempted to generate complex emotional expressions, whereas no previous studies have considered the "growth of a robot." Therefore, we propose a growth model for emotions based on changes in the network structure of a self-organizing map. We also applied a multilayer perceptron NN to generate more sophisticated expressions of emotion using growth functions. This model generated a similar behavior to the concept of affective change described in genetic psychology. Our results showed that this emotion model was more suitable for producing a robot with growth functions based on a psychological model.

    We present an Interactive Tabu Search (ITS) algorithm to reduce the evaluation load of Interactive Evolutionary Computation (IEC) users. Most previous IEC studies used an evaluation interface that required users to provide evaluation values for all candidate solutions. However, user's burden with such an evaluation interface is large. Therefore, we propose ITS where users choose the favorite candidate solution from the presented candidate solutions. Tabu Search (TS) is recognized as an optimization technique. ITS evaluation is simpler than Interactive Genetic Algorithm (IGA) evaluation, in which users provide evaluation values for all candidate solutions. Therefore, ITS is effective for reducing user evaluation load. We evaluated the performance of our proposed ITS and a Normal IGA (NIGA), which is a conventional 10-stage evaluation, using a numerical simulation with an evaluation agent that imitates human preferences (Kansei). In addition, we implemented an ITS evaluation for a running-shoes-design system and examined its effectiveness through an experiment with real users. The simulation results showed that the evolution performance of ITS is better than that of NIGA. In addition, we conducted an evaluation experiment with 21 subjects in their 20 s to assess the effectiveness of these methods. The results showed that the satisfaction levels for the candidates generated by ITS and NIGA were approximately equal. Moreover, it was easier for test subjects to evaluate candidate solutions with ITS than with NIGA. Copyright © 2013 The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers.

    This paper proposes a similar image retrieval for the Kansei retrieval. The Kansei retrieval system is designed to search for user's clothing articles by considering their Kansei. The system adopts a Kansei retrieval agent. The agent identifies users's choice of clothing by imitating their Kansei. However, the agent's structure can become excessively complicated because considerable information is potentially available. Therefore, a Kansei retrieval system needs to utilizes similar image retrieval. Similar image retrieval searches for a clothing image on the basis of clothing images. Clothing design contains less information than clothing image. A design includes features intended to create a general impression of piece of clothing. In addition, the Kansei retrieval agent evaluates the design, and searches for the designs that a user likes on the basis of the evaluation. Therefore, the agent's structure does not become complicated. In this study, we created a similar image retrieval application and verified it effectiveness. The application searches for clothing images on the basis of the design that a user chooses. The results show that similar image retrieval can identify clothing images similar to the design. Thus, the effectiveness of the proposed similar image retrieval system was confirmed.

    We describe the effectiveness of interactive evolutionary computation (IEC) with tournament-style evaluation to reduce the evaluation load of IEC users. Most previous studies did not clearly demonstrate the effectiveness of the tournament-style evaluation. Therefore, we implemented a tournament-style evaluation for a specific application and inspected the effectiveness of the IEC with tournament-style evaluation using an experiment with real users. We used three evaluation objects: music, animation, and image. We evaluated the performance of the following three methods. The first was a normal IGA (NIGA), which is a conventional 10-stage evaluation. The second was a tournament-style evaluation with two levels (T2), which evaluates only the superiority or inferiority of two candidates at a time. The third was a tournament-style evaluation with four levels (T4), which progressively evaluates the superiority or inferiority of two candidates. We inspected the effectiveness of these methods by simulation using an evaluation agent that imitated human preferences (or Kansei). The simulation results showed that the evolution performances of the NIGA and T2 are higher than those of the T4. Also, we inspected the effectiveness of these methods by an evaluation experiment with 42 subjects in their 20s. The experiment results showed that the satisfaction level for generated candidates were approximately equal among the NIGA, T2, and T4. Moreover, with the T2, it was easiest for test subjects to evaluate solution candidates than with the NIGA in all evaluation objects. And with the T4, it was easier for test subjects to evaluate solution candidates when the evaluation objects were music and image than with the NIGA.

    This paper proposes a method for the evaluation of online handwritten characters for a penmanship learning support system. In Japan, many people desire to write beautiful characters, as evidenced by the fact that correspondence courses on penmanship are very popular. However, correspondence courses lack real-time feedback because of the time required for sending materials, namely, the learner's copy and the teacher's correct result. Therefore, we have developed a penmanship learning support system that automatically evaluates the characters that a learner writes using a personal digital assistant (PDA). We examined the validity of our proposed character-evaluation method, and proved it to be valid.

    In this paper, we propose an information processing model for a kansei robot. This model handles memory based on human psychology. We expect that on incorporating the model, a robot can exhibit human characteristics because of using psychological memory. To verify the model, we first perform a comparison between the results of the experiment performed using this model and that of an actual psychological experiment. The results of the comparison suggest that the memory functions of the model are similar to the human memory functions. Second, we conduct the process of learning movement actions to verify that the robot on which the model was implemented learned movement for moving to many places and decreasing its curiosity.

    We propose an interactive tabu search (ITS) to be used for the development support of a product that fits a human's feeling. Interactive evolutionary computation (IEC) is one of the technologies used in the development support of products that fit a human's feeling using a computer and person undergoing a communication. The interactive generic algorithm (IGA) is generally used in the IEC. A major problem with the use of the IEC is the increased burden on the IEC user to evaluate multiple solution candidates. Using the ITS instead of the IGA may reduce this burden, because the ITS user chooses only his most favorite solution candidate among multiple solution candidates. We performed a comparison of the search performance using simulations with the ITS and IGA. As a result of this simulation, the search performance of the ITS exceeded that of the IGA by a range from 2% to 10%.

    This paper proposes a feature extraction method for online handwritten characters for a penmanship learning support system. This system has a database of model characters. It evaluates the characters a learner writes by comparing them with the model characters. However, if we prepare feature information for every character, information must be input every time a model character is added. Therefore, we propose a method of automatically extracting features from handwritten characters. In this paper, we examine whether it correctly identifies the turns in strokes as features. The resulting extraction rate is 80% and in the remaining 20% of cases, it extracted an area near a turn.

    This paper proposes an emotion-generation model for complex change using a chaotic neural network (CNN). Using a CNN, the proposed model will solve the problem of past studies that have indicated that robotic emotion changes are simplistic. The model uses the principle of an adaptation level, which is used in Russell's emotion model to generate emotion. This paper considers the effectiveness of this approach using simulation, and shows that the model can express a change of "adaptation". In addition, through the chaos of CNN, the proposed model can express different changes, even if the values of CNN's input values remain the same.

    This paper proposes a method of optimizing <I>Kansei</I> retrieval agents for multimedia data retrieval system. The system has multiple agents, each of which has a different character, to retrieve various multimedia data. The agent has a <I>Kansei</I> model controlled by <I>Kansei</I> parameters and can change its emotional response by changing values of the parameters. The proposed system can retrieve data desired by the user if the agents are optimized to adapt them to the user's particular emotional responses. In the proposed method, the system uses Interactive Genetic Algorithms (IGA) to optimize the agents. Evaluation of each agent in IGA population is determined by the user's evaluation to multiple data retrieved by multiple agents. This paper proposes two advanced evolution methods for optimizing <I>Kansei</I> retrieval agents in IGA operation, which exhibit better performances in evolving <I>Kansei</I> models compared to previous method.

    In this paper, we propose a behavior generation model for entertainment robot whose behavior seems to be living. Oneproblem of common entertainment robots is hard to generate various behaviors, because behaviors of the robots are generally madeby simple rule-based algorithms. The problem causes that the simplicity of the movement of the robot lets a user get tired soon. Inthis paper, we propose a behavior generation model based on principles of respondent conditioning and operant conditioning inbehavior analysis. The model has desire parameters and neural network for choosing a behavior. The desire parameters usually riseslowly and decrease by a specific behavior. Because the neural network learns the behavior decreasing more desire parameters, themodel can select spontaneously behavior. The result of behavior generation simulation shows the model has the feature of theirconditionings.

    In this research, we try to develop a <I>Kansei</I> robot which can recognize color combination image that means "feelings about colors". In that robot, the color image evaluation system, which has developed in our previous research, is installed. By using the system the robot can evaluate feelings about some color combinations and express these impressions in various kinds of key words, such as pretty, casual and chic. In this paper, we developed a <I>Kansei</I> robot recognizing feelings about colors of clothing which a person put on and expressing these feelings in some key words.

    In this study, we improved the coloring support system that was proposed in our previous research. The previous system could advise color combinations for clothing. The user enters some emotional keywords, such as "casual" and "pretty," which are impressions put forth by colors, and the system retrieves color combinations that seem to suit the keyword from a color database. The proposed system has many fuzzy color emotion models, which are controlled by parameters for defining membership functions or fuzzy rules. These models are evolved using interactive genetic algorithms, to adapt them to the user's particular emotional responses, because human reactions vary for each individual. This paper proposes a method for the advanced evolution of the fuzzy color emotion model. This method supports co-evaluation of color combinations, which exhibits a better performance in evolving models compared to the previous method.

    As a preparation for image recognition and character recognition in image processing, it is often necessary to separate the target region from other regions. To extract the edges of an object, binarization with a Laplacian filter or a Laplacian-Gaussian filter has been widely used. Such a method has problems, however: for example, the extraction of noise rather than the real edges of an object
    failure to extract parts of a visually noticeable edge
    and difficulty in setting thresholds for edge extraction. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a multiple-valued image-contour extraction method using a 3-valued L-G filter or a 5-valued full-color extraction method.     This paper proposes a method for quantitative evaluation of color harmony using a fuzzy reasoning. In the development of a system that evaluates color scheme quantitatively, it is important to clarify relationship between colors and their combination. In addition, it is also necessary to define some rules with relation to correlation between color scheme and color combination patterns.Therefore, this paper shows new approach to evaluate color harmony automatically. It uses some fuzzy sets to represent distribution of colors in hue and tone. Hue distribution types and tone distribution types are based on the color harmony theory proposed by Matsuda, and the system can evaluate harmony of three color combinations quantitatively using fuzzy rules based on the harmonious relationship between hue distribution type and tone distribution type. An experimental result shows that the result of quantitative evaluation using the system is similar to the questionnaire result about color harmony by human.

    Product design requires careful consideration of many factors. However, it is difficult for many developers to design a product that satisfies everybody because they have no idea ”What causes large number of people to like a specific product?” ”What fascinates them about the product?” or ”Which part or element of the design makes it attractive?” Generally, people like ”useful” products, but it is difficult to know what makes products easy to use. This paper proposes a method for investigating ”ease-of-use” by a fuzzy decision tree. It builds a decision tree based on the results of a questionnaire, which determines user's product impressions, and helps in discovering major factors that affect their ”ease-of-use.” In this paper, we analyzed golf clubs and investigated the factors that determine their specific ease-of-use, which is concerned with being able to hit golf balls easily. As a result, we obtained some reliable rules affecting user impressions using the fuzzy decision tree built from the questionnaire result.

    Chaotic Neural Network is well known as associative memory. In addition, it has an interesting behavior that it outputs some new interesting patterns with characteristics of multiple memorized patterns during remembrance process. This paper proposes a system that continues expressing new pattern which continue changing gradually while repeating memory and forgetfulness using the chaotic neural network. This system continues outputting new patterns by a rememorizing algorithm that replaces one of memorized patterns with new interesting pattern output by the system. In this way, the system continues remembering new patterns in sequence while changing characteristics of remembrance patterns gradually. It is expected to apply the system to the field of entertainment. In this paper, we make an application system that continues composing and playing music whose atmosphere has gradual change automatically. Some questionnaire results show that the system can compose music that is more interesting and more comfortable to some people than a simple music played repeating several measures melody.

    Recent years, developer of products emphasizes personal sensitivity, because a consumer come to selecthe product which is fit for oneself. In this paper, we studied ease-of-hitting and preference of a golf club by group method of date handling and neural network. At first, we selected a lot of adjectives which are well used in the case that golf players evaluate a golf club from the viewpoint of how easily he is able to hit a golf ball with it. Next we investigated values of many golf clubs from the viewpoint of the adjectives by questionnaire and analyzed the correlation between the ease-of-hitting and the adjectives. As a result, we got some rules to judge the ease-of-hitting and preference with golf clubs.

    In this paper, we propose an automatic composing system by using chaotic neural network. Chaotic neural network is possessed of a function as associative memory, so we apply the associative memory to automatic composition of melodies. User interface of proposed system "Chaotic Music Composer"is very simple and straightforward because an aim of the system is that it is pleasure to use it for people who aren't familiar with music composition and how to use computers. Users of the system can get some new melodies only by "selecting"and "listening"melodies which are given by the system. They select some favorite melodies from melody database, and put them into the system. The system divides the melodies into two elements, which are pitch of note and length of note, and memorizes those elements separately. The system generates pitch parts and length parts from inputted random patterns, and makes a piece of phrase compounded from two parts. In this way, user gets some phrase, and makes a piece of melody with arranging those phrases.

    Japan is the eminent volcanic country in the world, and Suwanose-jima in Kagoshima and Mt. Asama in Gunma are puffing out smoke vigorously at present. In the past, the large-scale eruptions occurred in Sakura-jima and Unzen-Fugendake, and 10 percent of the energy in the earthquake and the volcano eruption of the whole earth is released in Japan. Therefore the prediction for the flow area of lava is very important. Then, we try to develop the simulation system which predicts the flow area of lava and the people want to use it at their homes. Because of this, our system must be able to use on a PC becoming popular in the present time. Our simulation technique can reduce the computing time using the simple way without considering the viscosity dynamics and so on. Also this system can show the simulation result with the three dimensional image and the animation using OpenGL. The user can view the area of the lava flow from the various angles, and we think that this is useful for the improvement of their conscience for the disaster prevention.

    In recent years, the traffic accident occurs frequently with explosion of traffic density. Therefore, we think that the safe and comfortable transportation system to defend the pedestrian who is the traffic weak is necessary. First, we detect and recognize the pedestrian (the crossing person) by the image processing. Next, we inform all the drivers of the right or left turn that the pedestrian exists by the sound and the image and so on. By prompting a driver to do safe driving in this way, the accident to the pedestrian can decrease. In this paper, we are using a background subtraction method for the movement detection of the movement object. In the background subtraction method, the update method in the background was important, and as for the conventional way, the threshold values of the subtraction processing and background update were identical. That is, the mixing rate of the input image and the background image of the background update was a fixation value, and the fine tuning which corresponded to the environment change of the weather was difficult. Therefore, we propose the update method of the background image that the estimated mistake is difficult to be amplified. We experiment and examines in the comparison about five cases of sunshine, cloudy, evening, rain, sunlight change, except night. This technique can set separately the threshold values of the subtraction processing and background update processing which suited the environmental condition of the weather and so on. Therefore, the fine tuning becomes possible freely in the mixing rate of the input image and the background image of the background update. Because the setting of the parameter which suited an environmental condition becomes important to minimize mistaking percentage, we examine about the setting of a parameter. © 2004, The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.     In this paper, we propose a system named "Virtual Stylist", which aims to help users find out their favorite clothes, which might fit them well. The system is composed of 3 parts as follows, 1) searching clothes in consideration of their color scheme harmonies and image sensations, 2) adopting rules for evaluating color scheme image sensations to a specific user&apos;s feeling of color images, 3) virtual fitting system. The system searches through clothes database for some clothes on the basis of the harmony and sensation of colors that are used in them. In the case that a user require a jacket and pants which she might wear with her own shirt, the system search for some jacket and pants whose colors are in harmony with the color of her shirt and with which the color scheme image sensation seems to fit her imagination of dressing. The system posses some function that the rules for evaluating color image sensations, which are controlled by some simple parameters are automatically changed and adjusted to user&apos;s emotion. We achieved a way with which the system is real-time adapted to user&apos;s subjectivity with Interactive Genetic Algorithms.

    It is difficult for developer of products to investigate which part and element of a product is closely related to its attraction and ease-of-use. So we propose a method which investigates what has an influence on facility and preference with a product by adopting C4.5, which is a useful algorithm for building decision tree. In this paper, we investigate what viewpoint a golf player values ease-ofhitting with golf clubs from. At first, we selected a lot of adjectives which are well used in the case that golf players evaluate a golf club from the viewpoint of how easily he is able to hit a golf ball with it. Next we investigated values of many golf clubs from the viewpoint of the adjectives by questionnaire and analyzed the correlation between the ease-of-hitting and the adjectives. As a result, we got some rules to judge the ease-of-hitting and preference with golf club.

    Color design is very important for a product design. In this paper, we propose a system which aims to support such a color design. Proposed system is composed of 5 parts, such as the part which evaluates the harmony of colors, the color combining part, color scheme image judging part, image word output part and lastly image comparison part. First, the system requires the user to input a color and his preferring image of color scheme including his inputting color with image keyword. Next, the system selects colors from the Munsell color database, which are in harmony with the color inputted into the system. Then, the system builds color schemes to combine the color inputted by the user with the colors selected from the database by the system. Finally, images of the color schemes are evaluated and outputted the color combinations whose Images accord with the image keyword which the user inputs into the system. Experimental result shows that effective judgments of color harmony and color image are executed and we can get some good color schemes by the system.

    In this paper, we propose the interactive harmonization system using Kansei words. Novice arrangers who master very little musical knowledge can conpose accompaniment chords to their own melody with their image of the music. The proposed system implements interpretation of the melody, determination the tonality of the phrases and creation accompaniment chords by using fuzzy rules based on the musical knowledge. We institute image analysis of accompaniment chords with SD method to express them with image words and consider the function to change the accompaniment choeds with arranger's image of music.

    In this paper, we examine treating the subjectivity of the individual in the color coordinate evaluating system which we proposed previously. This system automatically judges the image of color scheme by the fuzzy rules based on the knowledge of the color combination image judgment, and it is confirmed by our previous report that the result of the color image judgment by the system is mostly in conformity with the Color Image Scale proposed by the Nippon Color&Design Research Institute. Since the parameters which define the membership functions and fuzzy rules for the image evaluation by the system can by changed easily as an user likes, it is expected that the system can be specialized to the image judgment for a specific user. Then, in this paper, we investigates an individual color image by the questionnaire about the color image and the word image, and try optimizing the parameters and the fuzzy rules for image evaluation by the system so that the image judgment by the system is in conformity with the individual color image.

    In this paper, we propose the system which evaluates color coordination by using the image words. The system aims at supporting the coloring design of the product.The system is composed of following three parts, 1. the judgment of the image with each color used for the coloring, 2. the judgment of the image of color combination, 3. the expression of the image of color combination in the image word.The system uses the fuzzy rules defined by the relation between the color image and the image words. The fuzzy rules which the system uses are based on the model developed at the Nippon Color&Design Research Institute which is one of the knowledge used in the color design field.

    The purpose of this paper is to propose a user interface using the expert system. This user interface is loaded in the interactive harmonization system. The user interface reflects the ambiguousness contained in the system and the user's subjectivity and taste in the technical work. Each membership function, which is defined by the control parameter specified by the user and based on seven pieces of technical musical knowledge, is used for this harmonization system. By changing the value of the control parameter according to the experimental music and examining the result, we find another natural accompaniment chord.

    We propose fuzzy reasoning to put harmony to melody in automatic harmonization system. We I-rave been considering: the following fuzzy sets and membership functions in the system. The system has two fuzzy sets of "conformability between melody and tonality" as the degree of fitness mu(A)(y(n)) and "conformability between tonality and relative keys" as the degree of fitness mu(T)(y(n)). The degree of fitness mu(C)(y(n)) for each tonality is obtained from mu(A)(y(n)) and mu(T)(y(n)). The system has two fuzzy sers of "conformability between melody and chord" as the degree of fitness mu(Mi)(x(m)) and "validity of chord progression" as the degree of fitness mu(Pi)(x(m),x(i-1)). The degree of fitness mu(Qi)(x(m)) for chord in melody i section is obtained from mu(Mi)(x(m)) and mu(Pi)(x(m),x(i-1)). mu(Mi)(x(m)) is obtained from three membership functions of mu(chord-A)(note), mu(chord-B)(note) and mu(chord-C)(note) which show an importance to each chord in each note, and mu(note) which is a relative importance about an existence time of each note, and mu(MS)(note) which shows a relative importance. mu(Pi)(x(m), x(i-1)) is obtained from three membership functions of mu(FC)(x(m)) shows an importance of each function chord, and mu(FP)(x(m)) which shows a strength of the dominant motion of the function chord, and mu(s)(x(m),x(i-1)) which shows a progression sense between two neighbor chords. It is shown in the good results that the natural chords, which don't break the tonality of the music, are achieved.

    It is very difficult in the music harmonization system of the modern popular music that the complicated music, that have the chord progression and the key change reflected in the music theories and arranger's personality, are composed by using the techniques of artificial intelligence and neural network.In this paper, we propose a musical arrangement system using fuzzy reasoning by max-min operation in two fuzzy sets. There are the parts consisting of some bars in the melody of the music. Each part has tonality very related to images of music. Then, we make a chord progression fit to the tonality of each part by taking notice of the importance of each note constructing a melody. The two sets are classified with (1)”fitting a chord to a melody” and (2)”propriety of a chord progression according to considering music theory. We get the parameters of the sets from the shapes of the membership functions, which are changed by arranger's feeling and experience. We have the good natural chord progression without inharmoniousness by using the reasoning. It is shown in the experimental results that the tonality takes advantage of the reasoning to propose the final chords.

    It builds the system which evaluates coordinating 3 colors using the fuzzy reasoning. The system measures the degrees of the similarities between 3 colors which user inputted and 130 colors on the Hue&Tone System and fixes warm-cool sense, soft-hard sense and clear-grayish sense. It measures three pieces of previously described senses and separation-gradation sense of the harmony with 3 colors, and it is making a fuzzy rule based on these four senses. A fuzzy rule is changed according to the subject and the taste of the user. Therefore, the system does the evaluation which was adaptable to the individual.

    Some expert knowledge has the fuzziness produced by the subjectivity and the experience. One of the knowledge including the fuzziness is the musical theory to harmonize a melody. We notice the musical knowledge and the musical information as processing such a kind of the knowledge. And we construct a harmonization system considering arranger's personality "HASCAP". The system has the three reasoning parts, reasoning the tonic key, reasoning the tonality of the part of the melody, and reasoning the chord progression. These reasoning parts are each composed of two musical rules which are not only based on the musical theory and the musical knowledge, but have fuzziness produced by arranger's personality and sense. HASCAP defines some fuzzy sets and reasoning rules based on the musical theory, and uses the knowledge including fuzziness. The system gets nine parameters which an arranger likes by using genetic algorithms, and consider arranger's personality and his sense. HASCAP constructs the membership functions by using nine parameters, and makes some chord progressions. In the paper, we propose a method of constructing the membership functions and the reasoning rules for HASCAP.

    When we compose a music, we are thinking of a motif. For example, the motif appears when we are naturally humming melody in our very happy time. The music is characterized by the motif. The motif is used as the basic elements in composing the music. In this paper, we propose a music composing system, in which the following third and forth bars are automatically composed using fuzzy reasoning under the motif given by the first and second bars.Here, we get fuzzy rules founded on the statistical data of the motif for the Japanese children's songs and school's songs which have heard once at the time of the child.In this system, it is to make it be possible based on one motif to compose easily to the person who has little musical knowledge. It is shown in the good experimental results that the automatic composing system takes advantage of the fuzzy reasoning.

    近年のコンピュータ技術の発展に伴い,人間の知能や感性を理解するコンピュータに関する研究が盛んに行われている。音楽情報処理に関する研究は,感性情報の格好の題材として,自動作・編曲から自動伴奏・演奏など数多く行われている。 我々は,音楽情報処理の研究の中でも比較的論理的側面を持つと考えられるメロディの和声付けに関する研究を行っている。本システムは,メロディを幾つかのフレーズに分割し,フレーズ毎の調性の判別を行い,各調性に適合する伴奏コードの中から推論を行っている。本研究では,伴奏コードを自動作成した後,一連の伴奏コードを再検討し,一時的調性を逸脱する伴奏コードを再構成することにより,曲の盛り上がりを演出するシステムを提案する。

    We developed the automatic harmonization system using fuzzy method. This system adopt the two fuzzy sets classified with ”fitting a chord to a melody” and ”propriety of a chord progression according to considering music theory” and the membership function of the two sets are determined from seven parameters in all. The arranger can get his favorite chord progression easily by setting the parameters. In this research, we investigate the relation between the parameters and the reasoning chord. We compose the system using genetic algorithm which study the reasoning parameter automatically from the original melody and chord, and get result that the reasoning system require the different parameters in the part of the melody which differs from another part with image in music.

    複数の人と複数のロボットがコミュニティ内で行う協働的コミュニケーションに着目し,親密性と協調性を考慮した感情・行動モデルの開発を進めた.まず,ロボットの感情状態がロボットの行動に影響を与えるモデルを開発し,仮想環境でのロボットエージェントに実装して人とロボットエージェントの協働コミュニケーションにおけるロボットの振る舞いの印象を調査した.その結果,ロボットがポジティブな精神状態にあり積極的な要因によりミスをしてしまう行為は,人に好印象を与え親密性が高まることが示唆された.
    また,複数の人とロボットが協力関係や利害関係にある状態において,暗黙的な集団規範を獲得できるロボットの意思決定モデルの開発を行った.本研究では,人とロボットが互いの利益を考慮しながら利己的・利他的に行動できるロボットの意思決定モデルを提案し,集団型最終通達ゲームにおける人間とロボットのインタラクション実験を通じて提案モデルを搭載したロボットエージェントの振る舞いを調査した.その結果,提案モデルを搭載したロボットは,実験シナリオにおいて集団行動と自己志向行動を両立できることが示唆された.
    さらに,人とロボットの親密性を高めることを目的として,感性検索エージェントを搭載したロボットエージェントとユーザが共通体験に基づき振り返り会話を行うインタラクションモデルを開発し,仮想環境内で人とロボットエージェントが衣服のショッピングを行う共通体験シナリオを通じてロボットの印象調査を行った.その結果,共通体験を通じて相手の好みを学習して会話するロボットは人に好ましい印象を与えることがわかった.また,人と複数のロボットが協調して学習を行う状況を想定し,複数の異なる特性を持つエージェントを用いた学習支援システムの開発を行い,プロトタイプシステムによる予備実験によりエージェントの振る舞いについての印象調査を実施した.

Devising educational methods

  • ・プログラミングプロジェクト実習II:授業支援システム関大LMSにより、各回の講義に使用するPowerPoint資料や説明動画、各回の演習の解答を学生に配布することで、学生が自由に復習できるように配慮している。
    ・データベース工学:BYODを奨励し、データベース標準言語であるSQLを用いて実践的なデータベース操作ができるように演習を多く取り入ている。Excelを用いた表形式のデータベース操作の演習や、MySQLを使った実際のデータベースへの問い合わせなどの演習を取り入れることにより、知識のみでなく実践技術の習得も目指している。
    ・特別研究:4月〜7月までは、基礎的な知的情報処理技術を毎週輪講形式で学習し、プログラミングにより実際に動作を確認することで理解度を深めるように努めている。また、4月〜翌年1月まで毎週英語輪講を実施し、技術英語の読解力やプレゼンテーション能力の向上に努めている。研究は大学院生と共同で実施し、月に1回の研究報告を行っている。これに加えて、研究報告用のSNSを用いて各自が毎週の研究活動の報告を行っており、研究室全体で学生同士の研究状況の把握ができるようにしている。
