    Speckle interferometry is a useful optical deformation measurement method for objects with rough surfaces. This method can measure not only the out-of-plane but also the in-plane deformation of these objects. Recently, the method has been used to measure three-dimensional (3-D) deformations at a high resolution. Many kinds of 3-D measurement methods based on speckle interferometry have already been proposed. However, the parameters in the sensitivity matrices of these conventional methods are not generally the same in each of the 3-D. Methods for which the sensitivity is not the same in the 3-D cannot be employed as an exact 3-D measurement method because the measurement uncertainty is different in each direction. This paper proposes a method where the sensitivity is the same in 3-D. An optical system was set up based on the concept of the proposed method. A method based on vector analysis is also proposed for detecting the deformation in an arbitrary section of the object. Finally, the 3-D deformation from the buckling of a mechanical beam was measured using in new speckle interferometry. (C) 2017 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE)

    Speckle interferometry is an important deformation measurement method for objects with rough surfaces. Recently, a fringe analysis method that uses only one speckle pattern before deformation and one after deformation was proposed. The measurement accuracy of this method is known to depend on experimental conditions. In this paper, the improvement of the measurement accuracy of this method is discussed in comparison with the advanced technologies of off-axis digital holography. It is highly effective to introduce the experiences of the advanced technologies of digital holography to speckle interferometry. However, it should also be considered that both technologies have different purposes. Because digital holography is basically a technology which records images, the influence of the quantity of deformation has never been discussed in digital holography in detail. In this study, the measurement accuracy of speckle interferometry is investigated through a precise comparison of the experimental results from both technologies. It was confirmed that the conditions for digital holography are not always suitable for improving the measurement accuracy of speckle interferometry.     An in-plane and out-of-plane deformation simultaneous measurement method using only two speckle patterns grabbed before and after deformation of an object with rough surfaces using two cameras has been proposed. However, there are some problems concerning the setup of optical system, the aspect ratio of grabbed image data and so on in the conventional method. To solve these problems, the new optical system is proposed by using the multi-recording technology. Though multi-recording technologies have been already employed conveniently in the off-axis digital holography, the technologies have not been used functionally enough in speckle interferometry. In this paper, an in-plane and out-of-plane deformation simultaneous measurement is performed by the proposed method based on multi-recording technology in speckle interferometry. From experimental results, it can be confirmed that the proposed optical system can measure simultaneously in-plane and out-of-plane deformations in high resolution by one camera.     Speckle interferometry is an important deformation measurement method for an object with a rough surface. In this paper, a novel fringe analysis method is proposed that uses a new optical system, which uses a plane wave as the reference beam of the speckle interferometer. When the optical system is employed in fringe analysis, the deformation information and the bias components of the speckle patterns are clearly separated in the frequency domain. Therefore, the deformation information can be readily extracted using a Fourier transform, which gives a pair of real and imaginary components concerning the information. The specklegram is calculated using such a pair of components, and the phase map is obtained from the specklegram. Experimental results confirmed that the resolution power of this measurement method is higher than 1/261 of the wavelength of the light source of the optical system.

    Electronic speckle pattern interferometry is employed in many industrial fields as a useful deformation measurement method. However, two speckle patterns obtained before and after the deformation are necessary for measurement. Furthermore, at least three speckle patterns are required for high resolution measurement using ordinary fringe scanning technologies. In this paper, a novel method that can measure high speed deformations using a limited number of speckle patterns without using high speed cameras is proposed. The method enables application to dynamic deformation analysis because the method involves analysis using only two speckle patterns obtained before and after the deformation. A novel optical system that can record some spatial information into each speckle is set up for the method. In experimental results, it is confirmed that the out-of-plane deformation measurement can be precisely performed by the method and that the resolution power is almost equivalent to that of the ordinary method.

Devising educational methods

  •  計測工学の講義には,「不確かさ」という概念がある.この概念は,従来の「誤差論」と取り違われていることが多く,一般の教科書においても誤った解説がなされていることがある.  2011年度からの新しいカリキュラムでは,「計測工学」は,一年次配当となり,この概念の理解は従来の二年次配当時に比べてさらに難しくなっている.この概念を一年生に説明するために,三回にわたって,段階的な内容でのレポートを講義の前に予習として課す学習システムを新たに構築した.そのための教材を作成し,この「教材」と「予習としてのレポート」さらに「講義」とを連携して,誤りのない理解を促す講義の実施に向けた取り組みを工夫した.

Teaching materials

  •  上記「不確かさ」に関する教材を作成した.この教材そのものは,「基礎知識の学習」「不確かさの基本概念の学習」「実演習」三つの要素からなるもので,それぞれレポートの提出が求められるとともに,講義と連携した学習・理解が可能な構成としている.  学生は,まず教材をwebから落とし,「基礎知識の学習」を読み,求められたレポートを提出する.その後,講義で再び「基礎知識の学習」についてレポートで理解が進んでいない部分を特に解説をするように努めた.さらに,これに関する演習を用意し,徹底して理解が進む道筋が用意できるように工夫をした.  同様にして,「不確かさの基本概念の学習」「実演習」を順次行う取り組みとなっている.  予習・講義・復習の学習パターンが形成されたのちにテストを行うことによって,学習内容の整理を行わせている.  今後さらに内容の検討を行う予定である. 「不確かさ」の概念の理解にとどまらず,学生が他の概念を理解する場合の学習プログラムとして拡大させることも考えている.
