    This study focuses on a network topology design problem with minimum cost subject to a reliability constraint (NTD-CR). The computational complexity of NTD-CR increases exponentially with an increase in the number of nodes and edges, necessitating the use of efficient algorithms in large-scale networks. Herein, variable neighborhood descent (VND) and weighting local search (WLS) algorithms, along with their hybrid WLS-VND, are used to solve this problem. The VND enables effective exploration within neighborhoods dictated by the characteristics of the problem, whereas WLS employs a dynamic penalty coefficient and weighting function to efficiently navigate the solution space. Numerical experiments confirmed that WLS-VND produced high-quality solutions with reduced dependence on the initial parameter settings. This result aligns with our objectives of developing high-performing practical algorithms for real-world applications and minimizing the need for laborious parameter tuning. Furthermore, WLS-VND holds promise for designing cost-effective and reliable network infrastructures.

    This study focuses on developing an algorithm to compute the system signatures of linear and circular connected-[Formula: see text]-or-[Formula: see text]-out-of-[Formula: see text]:F lattice systems. In reliability engineering, system signatures have diverse theoretical applications, such as conducting stochastic comparisons of certain systems, deriving mean time to failure, and providing optimal maintenance policy. However, the complexity involved in computing the system signature increases with the increase in the number of components, making the aforementioned applications challenging. Moreover, the computation of system signatures for connected-[Formula: see text]-or-[Formula: see text]-out-of-[Formula: see text]:F lattice systems has not been sufficiently discussed. Thus, this study proposes an algorithm for computing the system signatures of both linear and circular connected-[Formula: see text]-or-[Formula: see text]-out-of-[Formula: see text]:F lattice systems. Numerical experiments were conducted to investigate the efficiency and it was determined that the proposed algorithm can generate system signatures that the enumerative method cannot obtain. Consequently, the proposed algorithm will contribute to various applications.

    A connected-(r,s)-out-of-(m,n):F lattice system consists of components arranged as an (m,n) matrix, and fails if and only if the system has an (r,s) sub-matrix where all components fail. Though the previous study has proposed the recursive equation for computing the system reliability, it takes much time to compute the reliability. For one-dimensional systems, a matrix formula was provided based on the existing recursive equation when the system consists of independent and identically distributed components. The numerical experiments showed that the matrix formula was more efficient than the recursive equation. In contrast, for two-dimensional systems, the recursive equation is comparatively complex, so that it is difficult to drive a matrix formula directly from the recursive equation. In this study, we derive general forms of matrices for computing the reliability of the connected-(r,s)-out-of-(m,n):F lattice system consisting of independent and identically distributed components in the case of and . We compare our proposed method with the recursive equation in order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method using numerical experiments.

    <p>By the achievements in science and technology, we are enjoying a rich life that has never been seen in the past. On the other hand, the sophistication of science and technology has led to a high complexity and large scale of systems that support society and life. Our lives are greatly affected by these sudden failures and malfunctions. As the news of system failures are well reported everyday, it is becoming more and more important to improve the reliability of the "system" that surrounds us and to consider the design and maintenance of highly reliable systems. Research on system reliability (system operating probability) began in the 1960s. In this paper, we focus on the consecutive <i>k</i>-system in which the system fails (operates) when a part of the system fails (operates), and give an overview of the research surrounding the design and maintenance of consecutive-<i>k</i> systems.</p>

    本研究課題は,信頼性を考慮した2次元格子システムの最適設計を行った.具体的には,主に寿命の観点から2次元格子システムを比較し,長寿命を保証するシステムパラメータを特定することで,最適なシステム構造を決定する問題(最適構造問題)と,システム信頼度が最大となる部品の配置を求める問題(最適配置問題)に取り組んだ.
    2019年度は,2018年度に引き続き,システム比較に必要となるsignatureの効率的な算出方法の提案を行った.2018年度の時点でアルゴリズム開発は完了していたものの,Da他(2018)によりsignature算出のアルゴリズムが提案されたため,性能比較のための数値実験を実施した.その結果,提案アルゴリズムは既存手法と比べて良い性能であることを確認し,その有用性を示した.現在,研究成果をまとめ直し,査読付き英文論文誌への投稿準備を進めている.また,前年度に行った最適配置問題の求解アルゴリズムに関する研究成果はIEEE Transactions on Reliabilityに本年度採択された.
    本研究課題では,上記のように,効率的なsignature算出方法と最適配置導出アルゴリズムの開発を行い,信頼性を考慮した2次元格子システムの最適設計を実現しうる研究成果を得た.これらの成果は,2次元格子システムとして表現される実システムの最適設計への利用が期待され,実問題に対応することが可能となった.一方で,本研究課題では,“最適構造問題”と“最適配置問題”の関係を定量的に明らかにするには至らなかったため,これらの関係を明確にし,統括的なシステム最適設計を行うことが今後の課題となっている.
