Various technologies with AI (Artificial Intelligence), DS (Data Science), and/or IoT (Internet of Things) have been starting to be pervasive in e-tourism (i.e., smart tourism). However, most of them for a target (e.g., what to do in such a tourism spot as Hikone Castle) utilize their “typical/major signals” (e.g., taking a photo) as summarized knowledge based on “The Principle of Majority”, and tend to filter out not only their noises but also their valuable “peculiar/minor signals” (e.g., view Sawayama Castle) as instantiated knowledge. Therefore, as a challenge to salvage not only “typical signals” but also “peculiar signals” without noises for e-tourism, this paper compares various methods of ML (Machine Learning) to text-classify a tweet as being a “tourism tweet” or not, to precisely mine tourism tweets as not summarized but instantiated knowledge. In addition, this paper proposes a MAS (Multi-Agent Simulation), powered with artisoc, for visualizing “tourism tweets”, including not only “typical signals” but also “peculiar signals”, whose number can be enormous, as not summarized but instantiated knowledge, i.e., instances of them without any summarization, and validates the effects of the proposed MAS by conducting some experiments with subjects.

Retinal vascular leakage is known to be an important biomarker to monitor the disease activity of uveitis. Although fluorescein angiography (FA) is a gold standard for the diagnosis and assessment of the disease activity of uveitis, the evaluation of FA findings, especially retinal vascular leakage, remains subjective and descriptive. In the current study, we developed an automatic segmentation model using a deep learning system, U-Net, and subtraction of the retinal vessel area between early-phase and late-phase FA images for the detection of the retinal vascular leakage area in ultrawide field (UWF) FA images in three patients with Behçet’s Disease and three patients with idiopathic uveitis with retinal vasculitis. This study demonstrated that the automated model for segmentation of the retinal vascular leakage area through the UWF FA images reached 0.434 (precision), 0.529 (recall), and 0.467 (Dice coefficient) without using UWF FA images for training. There was a significant positive correlation between the automated segmented area (pixels) of retinal vascular leakage and the FA vascular leakage score. The mean pixels of automatic segmented vascular leakage in UWF FA images with treatment was significantly reduced compared with before treatment. The automated segmentation of retinal vascular leakage in UWF FA images may be useful for objective and quantitative assessment of disease activity in posterior segment uveitis. Further studies at a larger scale are warranted to improve the performance of this automatic segmentation model to detect retinal vascular leakage.

Background: The aim of this study is to develop an automated evaluation of anterior chamber (AC) cells in uveitis using anterior segment (AS) optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. Methods: We analyzed AS swept-source (SS)-OCT (CASIA 2) images of 31 patients (51 eyes) with uveitis using image analysis software (Python). An automated algorithm was developed to detect cellular spots corresponding to hyper-reflective spots in the AC, and the correlation with Standardization of Uveitis Nomenclature (SUN) grading AC cells score was evaluated. The approximated AC grading value was calculated based on the logarithmic approximation curve between the number of cellular spots and the SUN grading score. Results: Among 51 eyes, cellular spots were automatically segmented in 48 eyes, whereas three eyes (all SUN grading AC cells score: 4+) with severe fibrin formation in the AC were removed by the automated algorithm. The AC cellular spots increased with an increasing SUN grading score (p < 0.001). The 48 eyes were split into training data (26 eyes) and test data (22 eyes). There was a significant correlation between the SUN grading score and the number of cellular spots in 26 eyes (rho: 0.843, p < 0.001). There was a significant correlation between the SUN grading score and the approximated grading value of 22 eyes based on the logarithmic approximation curve (rho: 0.774, p < 0.001). Leave-one-out cross-validation analysis demonstrated a significant correlation between the SUN grading score and the approximated grading value of 48 eyes (rho: 0.748, p < 0.001). Conclusions: This automated anterior AC cell analysis using AS SS-OCT showed a significant correlation with clinical SUN grading scores and provided SUN AC grading values as a continuous variable. Our findings suggest that automated grading of AC cells could improve the accuracy of a quantitative assessment of AC inflammation using AS-OCT images and allow the objective and rapid evaluation of anterior segment inflammation in uveitis. Further investigations on a large scale are required to validate this quantitative measurement of anterior segment inflammation in uveitic eyes.

One of the early findings of diabetic retinopathy is microaneurysm. Microaneurysms look like dark small dots in the retinal images, thus it is difficult for physicians to detect them visually. On the other hand, convolutional neural network (CNN) showed superior performance in image recognition studies. This paper describes about the automated microaneurysms detection by using CNN and the performance. First, retinal images were enhanced by using shape index based on Hessian matrix, double-ring filter and Gabor filter. Microaneurysm was then detected by using CNN. Finally, false positives were reduced by using another CNN and three-layer-perceptron with 48 features. By applying the proposed method to DIARETDB1, the performance was better than previous methods.

<p>When collecting opinions to decide roles, majority votes after discussions are often used. Therefore, an environment that smoothly leads to reasonable and satisfactory conclusions in necessary. In this paper, the authors propose a consensus development support system that visualizes opinion input histories. Users input their opinions by moving images on the interface with a mouse, and input histories are replayed as animation. Users can input not only local but global opinions by seeing other user inputs. Such input histories might change other users’ minds by visualizing minority opinions. In this study, the targets of the system are role-sharing problems ordinary discussed in small groups of four to eight acquaintances. Based on the experimental results, the system effectively realized opinion convergence and acceptable conclusions.</p>

    Abstract

Creative activities based on combinations are now being carried on everywhere in the world. Whether or not the creative activity succeeds depends on the combinations used in it. Since there are tremendous numbers of candidate combinations, it is impossible to decide at a glance which should be used. Thus, there must be a method of efficiently discovering combinations which are effective in making creative activity a success. This paper proposes a method of discovering combinations that is effective in supporting creative activity. In the proposed method, the originality of each combination and the novelty perceived by users are estimated from the number of hits on Web pages containing the keywords in question, and the effectiveness of the combinations is judged. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

The information displayed as the search result by search engines is important for quickly finding the desired information. In particular, the summary of each Web page in the search results is important for determining the Web page content, as well as for determining how the input search term is used in each Web page, namely, the relation between the search term and the Web page. However, the summaries of the search results in conventional search engines have problems such as extracting only the opening text and not containing the search term, or containing the search term but having the sentence truncated in the middle so that the context of the term or the content of the Web page cannot be determined. Therefore, a summary in sentence units is desirable, but since HTML text includes many nonsentence items that do not contain punctuation, if they are unprocessed, it is difficult for a key sentence extraction system that treats sentences as units to provide a summary. Thus, in this paper, we propose an HTML text segmentation system that divides the source text of each Web page into meaningfully connected groups of text corresponding to sentences. We also verify experimentally that the text generated by this system can be used effectively in a Web page summarization. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

The word “multimedia” is commonly heard nowadays. The essential meaning of this word encompasses a broad range of contents. However, it is indisputable that information processing from now on will focus on visual information such as video and images, which are intuitively easy for us to understand and which carry a great deal of information. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an image labeling technique for supporting image retrieval on the Web by focusing on the relationship between images on Web pages and key sentences within related text areas and assigning labels to images based on these key sentences. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

With the widespread use of the Internet in recent years, documents are increasingly handled by electronic means. However, due to physical and time limitations it is difficult to review all of these documents. To allow selection of desired documents, it is useful to prepare a summary representing the content of each document. Consequently, this paper proposes a panoramic view system which extracts important sentences by a unique method. The system surveys the whole text and detects the keywords that express the features of the text. The feature keywords are extracted as words closely related to the main topic of the text and help to extract important relevant sentences. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

An Internet user who wants to know about a certain topic uses a search engine to find pages related to that topic. However, there are so many pages on the World Wide Web that the user cannot access the pages directly, because most search engines output URLs matching the exact words entered by the user. In addition, even though users use intelligent search techniques, it is difficult to input proper keywords because of lack knowledge or lapse of memory. This paper presents a Support System for User Interest Expression which supplies users with keywords, combining the user's interests with information on the WWW, making it possible to input search keywords concretely and precisely. © 2001 Scripta Technica, Syst Comp Jpn, 32(13): 14–22, 2001
