Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a long-term, highly prevalent disease that provides extensive data support in spatial-temporal user case data mining studies. In this paper, we present a novel T2D food access early risk warning model that aims to emphasize health management awareness among susceptible populations. This model incorporates the representation of T2D-related food categories with graph convolutional networks (GCN), enabling the diet risk visualization from the geotagged Twitter visit records on a map. A long short-term memory (LSTM) module is used to enhance the performance of the case temporal feature extraction and location approximate predictive approach. Through an analysis of the resulting data set, we highlight the food effect category has on T2D early risk visualization and user food access management on the map. Moreover, our proposed method can provide suggestions to T2D susceptible patients on diet management.

The proliferation of Social Media and Open Web data has provided researchers with a unique opportunity to better understand human behavior at different levels. In this paper, we show how data from Open Street Map and Twitter could be analyzed and used to portray detailed Human Emotions at a city wide level in two cities, San Francisco and London. Neural Network classifiers for fine-grained emotions were developed, tested and used to detect emotions from tweets in the two cites. The detected emotions were then matched to key locations extracted from Open Street Map. Through an analysis of the resulting data set, we highlight the effect different days, locations and POI neighborhoods have on the expression of human emotions in the cities.

Web advertising services have exhibited consistent growth over the years. However, the conventional methods of web advertising recommendations, relying on keyword matching with search queries and browsing histories, encounter challenges when it comes to effectively targeting users with hidden or latent interests. In contrast, the use of mobile device location data in advertising recommendations often centers around physical store proximity. To address these limitations, our research aims to enhance web advertising recommendations by analyzing latent user interests through real-world behavioral data. This study specifically investigates the influence of area size on user behavioral analysis and its subsequent impact on the accuracy of predicting visit probabilities. We achieve this by extracting the user's activity range from user behavior (movement) log data and geotagged tweets. Subsequently, we tally the places visited by the user, considering spot attributes, and convert this data into feature vectors. Utilizing these feature vectors in conjunction with various classification methods, we build learning models. In this paper, we present and evaluate these learning models employing different area sizes, verifying their accuracy in predicting user visits to specific stores.

Spatial zooming graph attention networks (SZ-GAT) is an emerging framework to improve the quality of recommended places visualization on the map. With the advent of location sharing on social networks via mobile devices, the geographic characteristics of the user's points of interest (POIs) contain the visit history, map check-in positions, recommended places, and route plans. In the context of user-preferred POI prediction with map zooming SZ-GAT framework, we propose a visualization for raster category exploration that uses tweet user visit history to represent the POI visit popularity of the raster units. We concentrate on the performance of the POI data visualized map layer zooming process and our results show that the SZ-GAT framework has a better performance of raster category regression with the baselines. Raster category prediction will be used for urban area division, dynamic category feature extraction with user visit history, and government policy-making based on user behaviors of map tiles. This study promotes the progress of deep learning and data mining in the field of human geographic information.

MaaS (Mobility as a Service) itself has come into common use, and these developments have attracted keen interest from the industry in recent years. MaaS can be applied as a solution to deal with the current situation by considering the social distance. However, due to the time-share mechanism, personal assets are monopolized by specific users for a long time that cannot be shared with other users at the same time. Thus, the sharing economy companies in the tourism industry (e.g., Airbnb Experience and Huber) are in a dilemma of low productivity and high cost. In this research, we propose a new travel guide sharing service that considers the concept of social distance and user preferences. The user side only needs to select simple conditions such as travel time and the number of POIs (Point of Interest) that she/he plans to visit, meanwhile, the guide side simply inputs the POIs that she/he can guide. Furthermore, by analyzing these basic information, our proposed system can recommend the tour guides, scenic spots, and route planning to provide a real-time tour guide plan, which addressed the user's preferences and reduced the face-to-face communication to users in advance. To verify the effectiveness of our proposed method, we also ask 68 users to evaluate our system and analyze the results of questionnaires.

Since the spread of COVID-19 around the world, a series of policies and measures are adopted by the Japanese government to control the epidemic. As a result of these policies, people's daily life and the functional division of society have changed. In order to understand the changes in urban function and people's daily behavior over the past year, we collected and analyzed over 1.13 million social media data (Twitter in our example) containing geographic information. We propose regional competitiveness, which represents the access frequency of social data in each raster unit to several attributes. In order to analyze the regional competitiveness in different categories and map tiles, we applied an improved spatio-temporal graph attention network model (ST-GAT) based on unstructured POI (point of interest) data and Twitter data in different levels of the map to abstract the city-regional competitiveness. We have developed and evaluated the competitiveness map tiles based on 5 attributes utilized Twitter data at 2020 of Kyoto in Japan. As the spread of COVID-19 disease and government anti-epidemic measures change the frequency of visits to the core of the city and the trend of regional competitiveness, and our results showed that the regional competitiveness in the map tiles obtained by social media data and POI data visualizes the dynamic change analysis of crowd behavior activities and urban social functions. This research enlightens the promising future of spatio-temporal GAT in users' dynamic responses with geographic information.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are among the most popular wireless technologies for sensor communication purposes nowadays. Usually, WSNs are developed for specific applications, either monitoring purposes or tracking purposes, for indoor or outdoor environments, where limited battery power is a main challenge. To overcome this problem, many routing protocols have been proposed through the last few years. Nevertheless, the extension of the network lifetime in consideration of the sensors capacities remains an open issue. In this paper, to achieve more efficient and reliable protocols according to current application scenarios, two well-known energy efficient protocols, i.e., Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering hierarchy (LEACH) and Energy–Efficient Sensor Routing (EESR), are redesigned considering neural networks. Specifically, to improve results in terms of energy efficiency, a Levenberg–Marquardt neural network (LMNN) is integrated. Furthermore, in order to improve the performance, a sub-cluster LEACH-derived protocol is also proposed. Simulation results show that the Sub-LEACH with LMNN outperformed its competitors in energy efficiency. In addition, the end-to-end delay was evaluated, and Sub-LEACH protocol proved to be the best among existing strategies. Moreover, an intrusion detection system (IDS) has been proposed for anomaly detection based on the support vector machine (SVM) approach for optimal feature selection. Results showed a 96.15% accuracy—again outperforming existing IDS models. Therefore, satisfactory results in terms of energy efficiency, end-to-end delay and anomaly detection analysis were attained.

Recently, short recipe videos such as Kurashiru and DELISH KITCHEN have become popular. These short recipe videos can help people learn many cooking skills in a brief time. However, it is difficult for users to understand all cooking operations by viewing these videos only once. These short recipe videos do not consider users’ cooking skills (cooking levels) since anyone may view the same video. Therefore, in this work, we propose an interactive cooking support system for short recipe videos by extracting and weighting cooking operations for each cooking genre based on user browsing behavior. The system then recommends various supplementary recipe videos based on the weights of cooking operations and user browsing behavior. Also, the system provides a user interface, called Dynamic Video Tag Cloud for visualizing the supplementary recipe videos, and the supplementary recipe videos can be dynamically changed based on the user browsing behavior. As a result, users can intuitively and easily understand cooking operations suited to their cooking favorites. Finally, we verified the effectiveness of the weighting of cooking operations and discussed the usefulness of our proposed user interface using the SUS score.

During the recent years of Internet TV spread, researches on recommending relevant information for TV programs have been actively conducted. The NHK’s Hybridcast provides a service that recommends relevant information on the same screen during the broadcast of a TV program. However,there is currently no service for recommending supplementary information based on the users’ viewing behavior. Based on this research background, we first extract geographic words (location names) and topics of each scene using closed captions of TV programs. Next, we analyze the user’s viewing behavior to extract the scenes selected by the user in the sequence. After that, we can detect the topics of the user’s selected scenes. Therefore, the supplementary information is recommended by generating queries based on geographical relationships using geographical words and topics. In this paper, we discuss our proposed system for supporting interactive viewing of TV programs, which is based on the viewing behavior of users and geographic relationships.

The new pandemic disease caused by COVID-19 virus is the crucial event over the world in the beginning of 2020. Studies on corona viruses have been however carried since several decades ago, with recent research papers published on weekly basis. We demonstrate a simple approach to explore CORD-19 dataset to provide a high level overview of important semantic changes that occurred over time. Our method aims to support better understanding of large domain-specific collections of scholarly publications that span long time periods and could be regarded as complementary to frequencybased analysis.

本研究は，距離や範囲，方向，大きさを組み合わせた空間検索の実現を目的とする．従来複数キーワードによる検索は，ワード間の距離や範囲といった空間上の位置関係を考慮した検索が困難であった．特に，地図検索での任意のワード（現在地等の起点）から距離や範囲等の空間的制約に合致したワード（店舗等の対象物）の検索は，効率性と精度ともに低かった．本論文では，地図検索において検索ワード間の空白に着目し，各ワードを起点と対象物とし，ワード間の空白を起点から対象物までの位置関係を表現する第3のワードととらえ，さらにそれらの演算を可能とする新たな問合せ空間演算子を定義し，距離や範囲，方向等の空間演算の検索方式を提案する．具体的には，10種類の演算子を定義し，それら演算子を使った空間演算に基づく地図検索Webサービスを実装し，Google Mapsとの比較実験により検索精度および効率性を検証する．

Authorship contribution is often taken for granted. Internally, the contribution rate is usually known among all the authors of a given paper. However, this rate is hard to be verified by external parties, as the measurement of the authors' contribution is still not common and the way to measure it is unclear. In this paper, we propose a new blockchain based framework to assess the contribution of all authors of any scientific paper. Our framework can be implemented by anyone who is directly or indirectly involved in the publication of the paper, such as a principal researcher, grant funder, research assistant or anyone from relevant external bodies.

Nowadays, humanity generates and contributes to form large and complex datasets, going from documents published on media outlets, posts on social media or location-based information. The generated information tends to be complex, heterogeneous (texts, images, videos, etc.) and is growing at an incredible pace, with much of this data having a strong spatial and temporal focus. This steady increase in the availability of such a volume of information, forces the development of more effective user interfaces that would assist users in efficient visualization, analysis and exploration of the data. This half-day workshop on User Interfaces for Spatial and Temporal Data Analysis (UISTDA) held in conjunction with the IUI2018 conference on March 11th, aimed at sharing the latest progress and developments, current challenges and potential applications for exploiting large amounts of spatial and temporal data. In this paper we provide an overview of the workshop goals together with its main contributions.

Twitter is frequently used to express personal opinions and sentiments. This work presents a novel crowd sentiment analysis of Twitter for exploring cross-cultural differences. We aim to find similar meanings but different sentiments between Twitter data collected over diverse geographic places. For this, we detect sentiments and topics of each tweet and assign sentiments to each topic based on the sentiments of the corresponding tweets. This permits finding interesting cross-cultural patterns.We demonstrate a visualization system that supports the interactive analysis of two countries: France and Italy.

This paper presents a spatio-temporal mapping system for visualizing a summary of geo-tagged social media as tags in a cloud, and it is associated with a web page by detecting spatio-temporal events. Through it, users can grasp events at anytime from anywhere while they browse any web pages. In order to detect spatio-temporal events from social media such as tweets, the system extracts expected events (e.g., crowded restaurants) by using machine learning algorithms to classify tweets through space and time, and it also extracts unexpected or seasonal events (e.g., time sales) by comparing the current situation to those normal regularities. Thus, the system presents a social tag cloud of tweets to help users gain a quick overview of spatio-temporal events while they browse a web page, and it also presents a tweet list to help users obtain more details about events. Furthermore, users can freely specify a time period or a tag to view its related tweets. Finally, we discuss our proposed social tag cloud generation method’s effectiveness using dense geo-tagged tweets at multi-functional buildings in urban areas.

The recent rise in popularity and scale of social media services (SNSs) has created the growing necessity for SNS-based information extraction systems. A popular application of SNS data is health surveillance for predicting the outbreak of epidemics by detecting diseases from text messages posted on SNS platforms. Such applications share the same logic: they incorporate SNS users as social sensors. Such social sensor approaches also share a common problem: SNS-based surveillance can be reliable if sufficiently numerous users are active, but small inactive populations produce inconsistent results. To overcome this problem, this paper presents a novel approach using indirect information covering both urban areas and rural areas within the posts. This system uses not only direct information, but also indirect information that mentions other places. Indirect information is less reliable (too noisy or too old) than direct information. Therefore, we do not use the described data directly. Instead, we consider that indirect information inhibits direct information. For example, when indirect information appears often, we consider that everyone already has a known disease, leading to a small amount of direct information. In the experiment using three years' long collection of tweets (7 million influenza-related tweets in Japanese) described herein, this proposed approach improved the detection performance not only in rural cities, but also in urban cities, thereby demonstrating the feasibility of this approach.

Navigation in unfamiliar cities often requires frequent map checking, which is troublesome for wayfinders. We propose a novel approach for improving real-world navigation by generating short, memorable and intuitive routes. To do so we detect useful landmarks for effective route navigation. This is done by exploiting not only geographic data but also crowd footprints in Social Network Services (SNS) and Location Based Social Networks (LBSN). Specifically, we detect point, area, and line landmarks by using three indicators to measure landmark's utility: visit popularity, direct visibility, and indirect visibility. We then construct an effective route graph based on the extracted landmarks, which facilitates optimal path search. In the experiments, we show that landmark-based routes outperform the ones created by baseline from the perspectives of the lap time and the number of references necessary to check self-positions for adjusting route directions.

Twitter evidently stirred a popular trend of personal update sharing. Twitter users can be kept up to date with current information from Twitter
however, users cannot obtain the most recent information, while they browse web pages since these are not updated in real time. Meanwhile, Twitter users are difficult to gain useful information about their current locations since these are often posted on web pages. To solve them, it is important to enrich traditional web pages with real time tweets. Therefore, we developed a novel tweet mapping system to support web and Twitter user communication through both the contents of tweets and web pages based on spatio-temporal analysis. Our system maps geo-tagged tweets to web pages by matching their location names, and categorizes tweets based on category names of floors from web pages according to different time frames. Thus, our system can effectively present the most related tweets and their summary to help users easily gain more detailed current situation in different time periods, and it also can effectively present messages from web users to help Twitter users immediately obtain useful information. In this paper, we discuss our proposed mapping method's effectiveness with our prototype system using dense tweets in urban areas.

This paper presents an active communication mechanism based on SNS user behavior (e.g., likes, shares, replies) in e-learning For this, we propose a novel automatic link generation method by considering users' knowledge and interests during the conversation on SNS. The method generates two kinds of links to promote user communication in e-learning, 1) knowledge support for receivers who receive posts from senders, and 2) conversation evoked support for receivers to offer the information regarding senders. Through this, the mechanism can provide knowledge appropriate to each user in e-learning. In this paper, we discuss our proposed user characteristic extraction using Facebook pages.

MOOC has brought many benefits to e-learning systems as students are able to obtain various educational presentation slides through digital libraries. These presentation slides provide varying levels of knowledge to specific students. On the other hand, students usually have different levels of knowledge. Thus, it is important to detect expertise levels of lecture slides for specific students, and supplement the lecture slides with related information automatically for different knowledge levels of students. Therefore, we developed a novel automatic slide reconstruction system for digital libraries in e-learning, it generates new lecture contents from one original content related to users' interests and knowledge levels by adding and removing slides, in order to enable users to learn the reconstructed slides that they do not need no more searching. Our system first extracts topics and groups slides on topics to detect the expertise level of an original content by considering the context in the presentation. The system then searches other necessary contents and determines unnecessary original slide groups based on users' interests and knowledge levels. Through this, the system can automatically reconstruct lecture slides by classifying them into four groups based on expertise of lecture slides. Those groups are: basic contents for beginners, basic or specialized contents for intermediate students, and specialized contents for advanced students. As a result, users can satisfy and joyfully learn the newly reconstructed slides that are suit to their interests and knowledge levels. In this paper, we discuss our automatic slide reconstruction system to deal with different knowledge levels of students for content understanding, knowledge deepening, and interest-expanding, and verify its effectiveness.

Smartphones are the most frequently used devices for acquiring information, but people should operate the smartphones still using hands, even though wearable devices, e.g., Google Glass, are rapidly spreading. Meanwhile, electroencephalogram (EEG) is commonly used for recording brain activity, to translate the brain signals into computer commands; it is widely used for aiding disabled people. EEG has a potential to enable people to control information directly by brain activity. So, why cannot you control smartphones by thinking? EEG can enable people to control information directly. For example, your favorite song can be played without browsing by brain activity, even your smartphone in the pocket; and it can also prevent risks while driving or walking. We have developed a hands-free brain computer interface of practical use for controlling applications based on user intentions and feelings by adopting a wearable EEG device and smartphones.

Pub/Sub communication model becomes a basis of various applications, e.g., IoT/M2M, SNS. These application domains require new properties of the Pub/Sub infrastructure, for example, supporting a large number of devices in a widely distributed manner. In order to meet the demands, we proposed Scalable Pub/Sub System using OpenFlow Controller, which we call SDN Aware Pub/Sub (SAPS). SAPS utilizes the both Application Layer Multicast (ALM) and OpenFlow based multicast (OFM). A simulation was done for evaluating the hybrid architecture in traffic and transmission delay reduction. The result shows that in the tree topology, even if it has only 100 subscribers, OFM can reduce inter-cluster traffic 71.6% with 16 clusters compared to ALM-LA. It can also reduce maximum intercluster hops 87.5%. On the other hand, with only 100 subscribers, almost all of switches are involved in the OFM tree construction and consume flow table space for the topic. It indicates that our hybrid approach is effective in Pub/Sub optimization considering the resource limitation of OpenFlow switches.

This paper presents TweeVist, a geo-tweet visualization system to support users grasp event happens over time and space from tweets while they browse any web pages based on spatio-temporal analysis. TweeVist presents a tag cloud of tweets in different time periods are associated with web pages based on detected events. In order to detect events, the system extracts normal events (e.g., crowded restaurants, crowded facilities in Walt Disney World) happen at anytime and anywhere by utilizing machine learning algorithms, and it also extracts unusual or special events (e.g., time sales, disasters) by comparing current situation to those normal regularities. Thus, TweeVist can effectively visualize a summary of tweets in a tag cloud to help users immediately gain a quick overview of current situation or events through time and space while they browse a web page, and it can also effectively present a list of most related tweets to help users easily obtain more detailed information. Furthermore, TweeVist provides a communication function, which allows users to chat with other users who browse the same web pages, or Twitter users who follow an account of TweeVist.

Due to the remarkable growth of various social networks boosted by the pervasive mobile devices, massive crowds can become social sensors which can share microbolgs on a variety of social situations and natural phenomena in urban space in real-time. In order to take advantages of the novel realm of crowd-sourced lifelogs to characterize urban areas, we attempt to explore characteristics of complex and dynamic urban areas by monitoring crowd behavior via location- based social networks. In particular, we define social conditions consisting of crowd's experiential features extracted from the analysis of Twitter-based crowd's lifelogs. Then, we explore latent characteristic faces of urban areas in term of 5-dimensional social conditions by applying Non-negative Matrix Factorization (NMF). In the experiments with massive geo-tagged tweets, we classify urban areas into representative groups based on their latent patterns which enable to comprehensively understand images of the urban areas fo- cusing on crowd's daily lives.

Microblogging platforms such as Twitter have been recently frequently used for detecting real-time events. The spatial component, as reflected by user location, usually plays a key role in such systems. However, an often neglected source of spatial information are location mentions expressed in tweet contents. In this paper we demonstrate a novel visualization system for analyzing how Twitter users collectively talk about space and for uncovering correlations between geographical locations of Twitter users and the locations they tweet about. Our exploratory analysis is based on the development of a model of spatial information extraction and representation that allows building effective visual analytics framework for large scale datasets. We show visualization results based on half a year long dataset of Japanese tweets and a four months long collection of tweets from USA. The proposed system allows observing many space related aspects of tweet messages including the average scope of spatial attention of social media users and variances in spatial interest over time. The analytical framework we provide and the findings we outline can be valuable for scientists from diverse research areas and for any users interested in geographical and social aspects of shared online data.

Nowadays, many universities utilize groupware support for students to post and share their e-reports, and the students can browse and vote other students reports in e-learning. Teachers then need to evaluate and grade all students reports, but this will require a great deal of time and effort for a fair evaluation of the reports. Therefore, we develop an automatic scoring system for e-reports based on student peer evaluation by considering the relationship between voting and posting time of the e-reports, to promote the quality of the votes and prevent unfair votes. Then, the system provides a score ranking list of the reports based on a voting graph by analyzing the students who vote the reports, it is a grading tool to support teachers acquire the scores of the reports efficiently. Moreover, the system also enables students detect best reports easily. In this paper, we perform a student peer evaluation through groupware based on voting with a "Like" button in a course practice, and discuss an evaluation of our automatic scoring systems effectiveness compared to teachers scoring.

Microblogging platforms such as Twitter have recently received much attention as great sources for live web sensing, real-Time event detection and opinion analysis. Previous works usually assumed that tweets mainly describe "what's happening now". However, a large portion of tweets contains time expressions that refer to time frames within the past or the future. Such messages often reflect expectations or memories of social media users. In this work we investigate how microblogging users collectively refer to time. In particular, we analyze half a year long portion of Japanese and four months long collection of US tweets and we quantify collective temporal attention of users as well as other related temporal characteristics. This kind of knowledge is helpful in the context of growing interest for detection and prediction of important events within social media. The exploratory analysis we perform is possible thanks to the development of visual analytics framework for robust overview and easy detection of various regularities in the past and future-oriented thinking of Twitter users. We believe that the visualizations we provide and the findings we outline can be also valuable for sociologists and computer scientists to test and refine their models about time in natural language.

The research introduced in this paper develops a semantic model whose objective is to analyze the geographical and emotion-based distribution of tweets at a large country scale. The approach extracts and categorizes tweets based on semantic orientations of terms in a dictionary, and explores their spatial and temporal distribution. Tweets are classified into different emotional classes, qualified and valued using different interval distributions that favor identification of significant trends that are compared to some of the main properties of the underlying geographical space. The whole approach is applied to a large tweets database in Japan, and illustrated by some experimental but real data that trigger some surprising and puzzling outcomes that are discussed in the paper.

Pub/Sub communication model becomes a basis of various applications, e.g. IoT/M2M, SNS. These application domains require new properties of the Pub/Sub infrastructure, for example, supporting a large number of devices with widely distributed manner, handling emergency messaging with priority control and so on. In order to meet the demands, we proposed Software Defined Network Aware Pub/Sub (SAPS) which utilize the both Application Layer Multicast (ALM) and SDN, especially OpenFlow based multicast (OFM). A simulation was done for evaluating the hybrid architecture in traffic and transmission delay reduction, and then the issues to be solved in the current design were discussed.

With the advance of video-on-demand (VOD) services such as Net fix, users are able to watch many kinds of videos anytime and anywhere. While watching a video, recently, users often search related information about it through the Web by using mobile PC. However, users cannot satisfactorily understand and enjoy it because the video keeps playing when they search about it. It is necessary to detect various questions of the video to supplement their related information about each scene for automatic search. However, only one video includes various topics of each scene, furthermore, viewers have different levels of knowledge. Therefore, we have developed a novel automatic video reinforcing system, called TV-Binder, it generates new video contents from one video stream related to viewers' interests and knowledge by adding other related contents (i. e., YouTube videos, images or maps) and by removing unnecessary original scenes, based on topics of each scene. As a result, viewers can satisfy and joyfully watch modified video contents without searching anything. At first, our system extract topics and detect their scenes of a video stream by using closed captions. The system then searches other necessary contents and determines unwanted original scenes based on popularity rating of each original scene and level of detail (LOD) controlling under time pressure. Through this, TVBinder can automatically generate video contents are classified into four quadrants by two axes; one is digest and detailed videos, the other one is videos for experts with knowledge about particular topics and ordinary viewers without special knowledge. In this paper, we discuss our automatic video reinforcing system and an evaluation of its effectiveness.

In this paper, we measure crowd mood and investigate its spatio-temporal distributions in a large-scale urban area through Twitter. In order to exploit tweets as a source to survey crowd mind, we propose two measurements which extract and categorize semantic terms from texts of tweets based on a dictionary of emotional terms. In particular, we focus on how to aggregate crowd mood quantitatively and qualitatively. n the experiment, the proposed methods are applied to a large tweets dataset collected for an urban area in Japan. From the daily tweets, we were able to observe interesting temporal changes in crowd's positive and negative moods and also identified major downtown areas where crowd's emotional tweets are intensively found. In this preliminary work, we confirme the diversity of urban areas in terms of crowd moods which are observed from the crowd-sourced lifelogs on Twitter.

MOOC is a crucial platform for improving education; students are able to obtain various educational presentation contents through the Web. Recently, Prezi introduced a zoomable canvas as a substitute to the traditional presentations that allows users to zoom in and out of the presentation media. Teachers then attempt to provide presentations in a nonlinear fashion for enhancing the user interaction through these presentations; however, creation of nonlinear presentations would be time-consuming, besides posing design challenges. Therefore, we have developed a novel support system for grasping overviews of presentation slides, it generates a meaningfully structured presentation, called iPoster; this enables users to automatically navigate through the slide-based educational contents. The system places elements such as text and graphics of presentation slides in a structural layout by semantically analyzing the slide structure. The structural layout can reveal the hierarchy of elements based on topic structure by moving from the overview to a detail using automatic transitions, such as zooms and pans. Through this, the iPoster can support students to interactively browse online presentation slides for grasping an overview; it would substantially help the students navigate the presentation slides effectively for their learning purposes. In this paper, we discuss our <u><b>i</b></u>nteractive <u><b>poster</b></u> (iPoster) generation method and we have also included an evaluation of our methods effectiveness.

Microblogging is a new form of blogging in which microbloggers can share their status in short posts. Microbloggers can be kept up to date with current information from microblog senders, however, Web users cannot be simultaneously updated by microblogs, to obtain the most recent information, whilst they browse Web pages since these are not updated in real time. To circumvent this time lag and provide Web users with up to date information, it is thought that an appropriate method is to associate microblogs and Web pages. Therefore, we have developed a location-based microblog viewing system to support Web users. Our system can present microblogs that are synchronized with Web pages in order to help Web users grasp the current situation in real time, both easily and effectively. In order to map heterogeneous media, we extract the relationship between microblogs and Web pages by generating queries based on common location names. In this paper, we discuss our prototype system and evaluate of our proposed mapping method's effectiveness.

GPS-based navigation systems widely available on automobiles and smartphones nowadays are essential to find the best routes in the complicated urban space. However, it is still difficult for bikers to take full advantages of such navigation systems due to the lack of consideration on the different driving conditions. Generally, motorcyclists and cyclists take rides on narrow alleys and sidewalks which have a high risk of bumping against pedestrians. Therefore, it is necessary to find comfortable driving routes, also possibly avoiding areas congested by crowds. However, it is impractical to monitor crowd's existence everywhere at all times for such crowd-aware navigation. To overcome this limitation, we attempt to utilize location-based social network services where geo-tagged microblogs from massive crowd can be a good alternative source to measure pedestrian congestion in urban areas. In this paper, we introduce a route search method for bikers particularly to exploit crowd's volunteering reports being streamed via microblogs. In order to estimate human traffic from microblogs, we develop a crowd flow network which captures probable crowd movement on an urban network. We also examine the possible intersections which are expected to be highly congested based on the model. On the crowd flow network, we will find the best routes consisting of comfortable intersections and streets for the bike navigation systems.

This paper proposes an interactive 3D animation system specifically aiming efficient control of human motion. However there are various commercial products for creating movies and game contents, those are still difficult to deal with for non-professional users. To ease the creation process and encourage to utilize 3D animation for the general users, e.g., in the field of such as education, medicine and so on, we propose a system using Kinect. The data of skeleton models of human motion estimated by Kinect is processed to generate Motion Graph and finally restructure the data automatically for 3D character models. We also propose an efficient 3D animation viewing system based on touch interface for tablet device, which enables intuitive control of multiple motions of the human activity. To evaluate the effectiveness of the method, we implemented a prototype system and created several 3D animations.

This paper presents TWinChat, a Twitter and Web user interactive chat system to support simultaneous communication between microbloggers and Web users in real time through both the contents of microblogs and Web pages. TWinChat provides a question answering interface attached to Web pages, which allows Web users to chat with Twitter users in real time while presenting tweets that are associated with Web pages, i.e., simultaneous cross-media communication. In order to map heterogeneous media, the system extracts relationship between tweets and Web pages by generating queries based on location names. Thus, our system can effectively present messages from Web users to help Twitter users immediately obtain useful information or knowledge, and it also can effectively present tweets from the Twitter users to help the Web users easily grasp the current situation in real time.

We have developed a novel system for comprehensive Web search considered the diversity of sentiments. Recently, lots of studies and services based on sentiment analysis have been conducted, because it is still difficult to search and summarize information satisfying users' needs by text analysis only. In this paper, we propose a method to extract multidimensional sentiments of Web pages on a topic such as "Happy⇔Sad," "Glad⇔Angry," and "Peaceful⇔Strained." Specifically, the system can extract common sentiments for a topic and also retrieve and present various Web pages based on comprehensive sentiments. In the experiment, we evaluate our proposed method using the developed system.

Various TV programs, such as travel and educational programs, often introduce tourist spots, or historical places. However, viewers find it difficult to grasp the surroundings of these spots or places, how the locations are related, and distances between them, when instantaneously moving between the scenes by switching video streams. Therefore, we built an interface using the geographical metadata of the video streams, called TV-Milan, that automatically presents geographic contents (i.e., maps, photos, Street View, etc.) synchronized with the TV program.

We have developed a novel communication system that enables ALL users to share information and emotion effectively through ALL Web pages based on a physical property: a user can perceive others browsing the same pages through avatars on the Web browser, like a face to face communication in real world. The system optimize the displayed and communicable users by the relationship among them based on the information searching and sharing activities. Furthermore, the system also enables users to search not only Web pages but appropriate users: we construct a new ranking model by combining the real space information (the user activities) with the Web space information (the hyperlinks). We also verify the effectiveness of the system by the user study experiments in the condition where we suppose the system works especially well, i.e., information retrieval, collaboration tasks, and sharing of feelings.

ニュースサイトは日常生活における重要な情報源であり，閲覧者は発生事象の情報を受信する（受ける）のと同時に，書き方によって「楽しい」，「悲しい」，「怒り」等の多様な印象も受けている．特に，賛否両論となるニューストピックに関しては，複数のニュースサイトで報道傾向が異なるため，異なった印象を受ける．また，同じ話題であっても，時間が経つと報道傾向が変化する場合には異なる印象を受ける．そこで本研究では，記事の書き方を「印象」という評価指標で分析することで，ニュースサイトの報道傾向を視覚的に比較可能な分析手法を提案する．提案手法は，まずニュース記事の多様な印象を表現するのに適した複数の印象軸を設計し，ニュース記事に対する印象辞書を構築する．次に，この印象辞書を用いて各記事と各ニュースサイトの印象値を算出し，最後にサイトごとの報道傾向の違いおよび時間的推移を閲覧者へ比較提示する．本論文では，多様な印象に基づくニュースサイト報道傾向分析手法を提案し，国内 15 社，国外 10 社の計 25 社のニュースサイトに適用したシステムを用いて，その有効性を検証する．

Nowadays tablet devices are considered most important category of information-processing devices, because they attract not only PC users, but also all generation of people including small kids to elderly people. However, 3D graphics is mostly used by games and only few well-known applications exist. In this paper, we propose a new content creation system for interactive 3D animation, which dynamically changes the story dependent on the users' gesture. We introduce a state transition model to efficiently achieve smooth transition of multiple sequence of 3D animations. We also propose a content creation tools which help user to easily make such 3D animation.

Re-ranking and re-retrieval of search results are useful techniques for satisfying users' search intentions, since current search engines cannot always return user-desired pages at the top ranks. In this paper, we propose a system for personalized Web search considering users' emotional aspects. Given a query topic, the system presents the major emotion tendency on this topic that search results returned from search engines are reflecting. The system also enables users to specify the polarities and strengths of their emotions (e.g., happy or sad, glad or angry, peaceful or strained) on this topic and offers a re-ranking list of initial search results based on the similarity of emotions. Particularly, the system can automatically obtain Web pages with minor emotion tendency on the query topic by extracting sub-queries with opposite emotions and conducting a re-retrieval. Experimental evaluations show the re-ranking and the re-retrieval achieve encouraging search results in comparison with initial search results. © 2013 IFIP International Federation for Information Processing.

Recently importance of tablet devices with touch interface increases significantly, because they attract not only mobile phone users, but also people of all generations including small kids to elderly people. One key technology on those devices is 3D graphics; some of them exceed the ability of desktop PCs. Although currently 3D graphics are only used for game applications, it also has a great potential for other purposes. For example, an interactive 3D animation system for tablet devices has been developed recently and attracts many people. With the system, multiple 3D animations are played depending on view direction and user's gesture input. However, the system still has two critical issues: the first one is a complicated process for data creation, and the other is a conflict on several gestures overlapped at the same position. In the paper, the first issue is solved by using a realtime range sensor and the second one is solved by considering the relationship between the 3D object and the input 2D gesture. The effectiveness of the system was proved by making the real system and creating and manipulating the actual 3D animations.

We present a novel system that combines the advantages of social communication and Web search by simultaneously discovering important pages and users. First, the system provides a communication interface attached to pages, which allows users to talk with each other in real time while browsing the same page, i.e., page-centric communication. Then, the system can efficiently provide two ranking lists of pages and users by analyzing a hybrid structure of hyperlinks (page-page relationship) and social links (page-user relationship and user-user relationship). Thus, users can efficiently search for important pages as well as important users related to their queries through the ranking function, and immediately obtain useful information or knowledge from not only pages themselves but also from other users. © 2012 Authors.

We developed a personal Web3D system more than a decade which consists of 1) simple measuring method of 3D objects; 2) automatic annotation system; 3) efficient viewer; and 4) 3D object analyzing technique. Recently, we extended the system with 3D animation. With the system, not only 3D objects are automatically animated with predetermined parameters along single time-line, but also an interactive operation on asynchronous motion is realized. To achieve this, we propose a state transition model considering a state of 3D object linked with 3D animation. By using the model, independent animations are played according to the users interaction. Furthermore, intuitive interface based on gesture is implemented with tablet PC.

Conventional pos-neg model of sentiment analysis primarily for review documents is inappropriate for news articles because of the sentiment diversity of the latter. We design three-dimension sentiments that are more suitable for the analysis of news articles. For a contentious topic, different news websites may have different sentiment tendencies and the tendencies may vary over time. To catch this feature, we construct a sentiment dictionary and develop a system that can extract news articles' sentiments, present sentiment variation over time inside a news website, and compare sentiment correlation between news websites. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Due to the increased preservation efforts, large amounts of past Web data have been stored in Web archives and other archival repositories. Utilizing this data can offer certain benefits to users, for example, it can facilitate page understanding. In this paper, we propose a system for interactive exploration of page histories. We demonstrate an application called Page History Explorer (PHE) for summarizing and visualizing histories of Web pages. PHE portrays the overview of page evolution, characterizes its typical content over time and lets users observe page histories from different viewpoints. In addition, it enables flexible comparison of histories of different pages.

We propose novel search system that uses both hyperlinks and social links and thus combines the merits of searching and social communication. A user can quickly search for not only web pages but also for other users currently accessing those pages. Each URL on the search engine results page is annotated with the number of real-time users. By using these links, a user can communicate with other real-time users who may have more knowledge about the topic of the linked page. All linked pages provide a window for sending queries in real time and for communicating with other real-time users. The window also shows a log of previous communications through that page, enabling a user to see if a similar query was previously sent and answered, which would obviate the need to send it again. In this paper, we describe the design and algorithm of our proposed system for the implementation of those functions.

The web is characterized by low publishing barriers and contains content of varying degrees of quality and credibility. It is often difficult for web searchers to locate high quality content in returned search results. In this paper, we propose evaluating the extent to which search results contain recent information related to user queries. Our approach is based on corroborating search results with query-related information obtained from timestamped and non-timestamped sources. It uses news articles collected from online news archives and also employs a simple search index mining process to find terms representing fresh topics. As another contribution, we show how the proposed approach can be used for estimating the focus time of web pages, that is, the time periods to which the content of pages refers. We demonstrate the proof-of-concept system that evaluates and visualizes in real time the freshness levels and focus time of web search results. © 2011 ACM.

We have developed a search method that uses both hyperlinks and social links and thus combines the merits of searching and social communication. A user can quickly search for not only web pages but also for other users currently accessing those pages ("real-time users"). Each URL on the search engine results page is annotated with the number of real-time users. On each page linked from the search engine results page, each hyperlink is annotated with the number of real-time users. By using these links, a user can communicate with other real-time users who may have more knowledge about the topic of the linked page. All linked pages provide a window for sending queries in real time and for communicating with other real-time users. The window also shows a log of previous communications through that page, enabling a user to see if a similar query was previously sent and answered, which would obviate the need to send it again. Furthermore, users can highlight text on a linked page, enabling other users to quickly find important information as the system can automatically scroll down and present the highlighted text after the linked page is accessed. We have also developed a page ranking algorithm based on a hyperlink structure and a social network structure. The social network structure reflects the "quality" and number of real-time users. A user can thus access the most popular web pages and experts in real time. In our ranking algorithm, how to timely reflect real-time user activities becomes a key point for our system validity. In this paper, we especially focus on it. As a first phase, in order to shorten the calculation time of our ranking method, we investigated SLEPc, a parallel computing library based on Open MPI and PETSc. We evaluated three calculation methods, Lanzcos, Arnoldi and Krylov-Schur, implemented in SLEPC. As a result, we confirmed that we can complete the eigenvalue and the eigenvector calculation of a probability transition matrix with hundreds of thousands rows and columns in dozens of seconds. Based on the investigation of this paper, we will implement our ranking algorithm on the prototype system. © 2011 IEEE.

Recently, an increasing number of online news websites have come to provide news browsing and retrieval services. For certain topics, certain news websites may hold sentiment bias, and therefore select and edit information according to their own standpoints before delivering news articles. Lacking conscious awareness of websites' sentiment bias may result in blind obedience to the reported information. We focus on the sentiment aspect of news articles and develop a system which can detect and visualize sentiment tendencies of different websites. Given a topic, the system extracts relevant subtopics and presents sentiment difference between different subtopics. Once a subtopic is specified, sentiment difference between news websites is also provided. The background knowledge of sentiment difference between subtopics and between websites can assist users in judging the news credibility. In particular, the system analyzes four-dimension sentiment, which is more similar to human emotion than conventional positive-negative sentiment. Experimental evaluations show the accuracy of sentiment extraction and subtopic extraction is good, and our observation results show sentiment bias can be detected by the system.

Most of current search engines invoke a function of query expansion for a re-retrieval or a re-ranking, which provides sub-keywords related to query keywords entered by a user. However, users cannot make full use of sub-keywords, except for selecting or abandoning them. This paper proposes a user-tunable system for re-ranking search results. The system automatically extracts sub-keywords complementing the meaning of query keywords, and constructs a radar chart interface by using the extracted sub-keywords as its chart items. The radar chart interface enables users to freely adjust the importance between multiple sub-keywords or replace inappropriate sub-keywords, so that user-desired pages can be re-ranked to the top place. Empirical evaluation, conducted by not only the author but also a total of 100 individuals, shows that the appropriate sub-keywords can be extracted and the re-ranking performance is good. © Copyright International Association of Engineers.

The users of search engines generally input less than 2 query keywords and only browse the top ranked pages from the ordered search results. However, credible information which users want to obtain may be hidden in the pages with low ranks. When the results of an initial input query are not satisfactory, they re-retrieve pages by adding or revising keywords until they find their desired information. We propose a novel re-ranking system based on a radar chart interface which considers the importance relationship among multiple sub-keywords. The proposed system can automatically extract some sub-keywords which complement the meaning of the query keywords entered by a user, and form a radar chart interface by using the extracted sub-keywords as its chart items. Users can easily adjust the importance degrees of the extracted sub-keywords or replace them with new words by using the radar chart. Our system makes the re-ranking more effective and flexible.

We describe a new concept and method for evaluating the Web information credibility. The quality control of information (text, image, video etc.) on the Web is generally insufficient due to low publishing barriers. As a result, there is a large amount of mistaken and unreliable information on the Web that can have detrimental effects on users. This calls for technology that facilitates the judging of the credibility (expertise and trustworthiness) of Web content and the accuracy of the information that users encounter on the Web. Such technology should be able to handle a wide range of tasks: extracting several credibility-related features from the target Web content, extracting reputation-related information for the target Web content, such as hyperlinks and social bookmarks and evaluating its distribution, and evaluating features of the target content authors. We propose and describe methodologies of analyzing information credibility of Web information: (1) content analysis, (2) social support analysis and (3) author analysis. In recent years, usage of 3D object for various purposes, such as CG movie, games, web 3D and so on, is rapidly increasing. In addition, 3D shape capturing method is also improved and many commercial products are now widely available. As a result, a number of 3D objects those are uploaded and published on the Web will greatly increase in the near future. On the other hand, the method for retrieving 3D objects from the Web is not thoroughly researched yet. Based on this background, we propose an efficient method to retrieve a 3D object from the Web using both 3D feature of the 3D objects and ranking results of web search. A number of Web agents have been recently proposed. One type of Web agents is an agent assisting users with browsing the Web. In this paper, we present such an agent that supports users during browsing to help them discover new content and better understand and orienteer themselves in the changes occurring in the Web. First, the agent enables finding novel content on visited Web pages by detecting and highlighting the information that is fresh for a user or that recently appeared. This involves the comparative analysis of the previously seen page views and the current state of the visited pages as well as the search in page histories that are reconstructed using data from Web archives. Second, using the historical versions of pages, the agent can create visual, concise summaries of pages' past content within specified time periods. These summaries can be used in order to provide a quick overview of main topics, for example, when the pages are accessed for the first time thus helping the user to better understand documents' main themes and characteristics. In the last part of the chapter we describe the results of an online survey conducted on a group of 1000 Web users. This study was made in order to provide more insight into the needs and expectations of users regarding the evolution of the Web as well as the various kinds of temporal information resulting from Web changes. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Information recommendation and filtering techniques have been studied intensively. Traditional tour recommendation systems, which can be considered one of information recommendation systems, usually calculate the shortest path in terms of time or distance. Recently, tour recommendation systems for more general purposes have become an important research topic. In this paper we propose an efficient tourist route search system which not only recommends the path simply connecting several tourist spots, but also recommends the path with beautiful scenic sights. We focus on the visibility of scenic sights between one tourist spot and another, which is an important factor for choosing a driving route, but has not been considered in traditional tour recommendation systems. To automatically retrieve tourist spots, we propose a personalized tourist spot recommendation technique using the Web information. Although, for some regions, databases of the famous spots exist and are published, such regions are limited and usually outdated. Our method automatically extracts spots from the Web, thus our system is versatile and up-to-date for large regions. To find a route with attractive scenery, we calculate scores for paths based on the visibility of scenic sights. After generating route candidates using GIS, a 3D virtual space is constructed and the Z-Buffer method is used to decide the visibility of scenic sights for each route candidate. We implemented a prototype and tested the effectiveness of the system.

Recently, an increasing number of news websites have come to provide various featured services. However, effective analysis and presentation for distinction of viewpoints among different news sources are limited. We focus on the sentiment aspect of news reporters' viewpoints and propose a system called the Sentiment Map for distinguishing the sentiment of news articles and visualizing it on a geographical map based oil map zoom control. The proposed system provides more detailed sentiments than conventional sentiment. analysis which only considers positive and negative emotions. When a user enters one or more query keywords, the sentiment map not only retrieves news articles related to the concerned topic, but also summarizes sentiment tendencies of Web news based on specific geographical scales. Sentiments can be automatically aggregated at different levels corresponding to the change of map scales. Furthermore, we take into account the aspect of time, and show the variation in sentiment over time. Experimental evaluations conducted by a total of 100 individuals show the sentiment extraction accuracy and the visualization effect of the proposed system are good.

On account of having real-time behavior and being easy to implement, spring meshes have been used for modeling deformable objects. Determining spring stiffness parameters for simulation of soft objects with high accuracy still remains a challenge. Allen Van Gelder derived an approximate formula for determining spring stiffness parameters based on strain analysis. Even though the experimental result showed the effectiveness, the method has not been investigated from a quantitative point of view. In this paper we propose a quantitative method for determining spring stiffness parameters. Moreover we propose a method to improve the accuracy by way of introducing torsional spring into the conventional spring mesh model.

Recently, along with the rapid growth of the Web, the preservation efforts have also increased. As a consequence, large amounts of past Web data are stored in Web archives. This historical data can be used for better understanding of long-term page topics and characteristics. In this paper, we propose an interactive visualization system called Page History Explorer for exploring page histories. It allows for roughly portraying evolution of pages and summarizing their content over time. We use a temporal term cloud as a structure for visualizing prevailing and active terms appearing on pages in the past.

We have developed a visualizing news system that shows the trend of the news site on the Web for credibility. If users know the trend of the news site, users can evaluate the credibility of each news topic. This system detects and uses sentiments of each news article to resolve the trend of Web site. The trend of Web sites are extracted as average sentiments of the news articles that were written concerning a topic in each Web site. The sentiments of news articles are represented by four values calculated in four sentiment scales: "Bright ? Dark", "Acceptance Rejection", "Relaxation Strain", and "Anger Fear". The sentiment values of news articles are calculated using the sentiment dictionary that was constructed by our previously proposed method. If a user enters one or more topic keywords, our proposed system extracts the news articles that include the keywords from each predetermined news sites. Our system also calculates the sentiment values of the news articles and their average value in each sentiment from each news Web site. The system then generates a bar graph from the four average values in each news Web site and attaches all the bar graphs on the world map using Google Map API. We call the map a sentiment map in this paper. The sentiment map helps users intuitively and efficiently understand trends among multiple Web sites concerning a given topic. In this paper, we describe how to create a sentiment map and explain how we evaluated our proposed system through several experiments. Copyright 2008 ACM.

So far, there have been many techniques and applications developed for handling 3D contents efficiently on the Web. However, there is currently no application that successfully makes 3D contents pervasive on the Web. One of the main reasons for this can be considered be the fact that there are only a few pages on the Web where a 3D object is sufficiently annotated with meta-information; meta-information is fundamental for the Web. In this paper (1) a semi-automatic annotation module which supports users in creating 3D contents with rich meta-information by collecting and filtering meta-data on the Web using 3D information; and (2) a view-dependent information representation nodule which shows information corresponding to the viewing direction of 3D objects are presented. In those modules, view-dependent information representation module is most important in our system, because such system is highly suitable to show meta-information to users, however; not proposed yet. We implemented the proposed system and conducted experiments which show that it is possible to realize semi-automatic annotation of meta-data on 3D objects and efficiently present view-dependent meta-information to users.

Web pages often contain objects created at different times. The information about the age of such objects may provide useful context for understanding page content and may serve many potential uses. In this paper, we describe a novel concept for detecting approximate creation dates of content elements in Web pages. Our approach is based on dynamically reconstructing page histories using data extracted from external sources - Web archives and efficiently searching inside them to detect insertion dates of content elements. We discuss various issues involving the proposed approach and demonstrate the example of an application that enhances browsing the Web by inserting annotations with temporal metadata into page content on user request. We have developed a news portal site called Fair News Reader (FNR) that recommends news articles with different sentiments for a user in each of the topics in which the user is interested. FNR can detect various sentiments of news articles, and determine the sentimetal preferences of a user based on the sentiments of previously read articles by the user. While there are many news portal sites on the Web, such as GoogleNews, Yahoo!, and MSN News, they can not recommend and present news articles based on the sentiments they are likely to create since they simply select articles based on whether they contain users-pecified keywords. FNR collects and recommends news articles based on the topics in which the user is interested and the sentiments the articles are likely to create. Eight of the sentiments each article is likely to create are represented by an "article vector" with four elements. Each element corresponds to a measure consisting of two symmetrical sentiments. The sentiments of the articles previously read with respect to a topic are then extracted and represented as a "user vector". Finally, based on a comparison between the user and article vectors in each topic, FNR. recommends articles that have symmetric sentiments against the sentiments of read articles by the user for fair reading about the topic. Evaluation of FNR using two experiments showed that the user vectors can be determined by FNR based on the sentiments of the read articles about a topic and that it can provide a unique interface with categories containing the recommended articles.

Page revisiting is a popular browsing activity in the Web. In this paper we describe a method for improving page revisiting by detecting and highlighting the information on browsed Web pages that is fresh for a user. Content freshness is determined based on comparison with the previously viewed versions of pages. Any new content for the user is marked, enabling the user to quickly spot it. We also describe a mechanism for visually informing users about the degree of freshness of linked pages. By indicating the freshness level of content on linked pages, the system enables users to navigate the Web more effectively. Finally, we propose and demonstrate the concept of determining user-dependent, subjective age of page contents. Using this method, elements of Web pages are annotated with dates indicating the first time the elements were accessed by the user.

We describe a browser for the past web. It can retrieve data from multiple past web resources and features a passive browsing style based on change detection and presentation. The browser shows past pages one by one along a time line. The parts that were changed between consecutive page versions are animated to reflect their deletion or insertion, thereby drawing the user's attention to them. The browser enables automatic skipping of changeless periods and filtered browsing based on user specified query.

Adaptivity and context awareness are becoming more important in recent web systems. We developed a prototype adaptive system called the "Personal Digital Librarian" (PDL). The PDL is a book recommendation and management system. The PDL user can obtain information on books appropriate to the user's interests. In addition, we have also improved the PDL to deliver book information appropriate to the context. Generally, the information that the user wants is different according to the context, such as location, time, etc. The PDL is built on a framework called "Adaptation Anywhere & Anytime framework" (M). The A3 provides systems, including the PDL, with adaptable functions.

While the Internet community recognized early on the need to store and preserve past content of the Web for future use, the tools developed so far for retrieving information from Web archives are still difficult to use and far less efficient than those developed for the "live Web." We expect that future information retrieval systems will utilize both the "live" and "past Web" and have thus developed a general framework for a past Web browser. A browser built using this framework would be a client-side system that downloads, in real time, past page versions from Web archives for their customized presentation. It would use passive browsing, change detection and change animation to provide a smooth and satisfactory browsing experience. We propose a meta-archive approach for increasing the coverage of past Web pages and for providing a unified interface to the past Web. Search engines affect page popularity by making it difficult for currently unpopular pages to reach the top ranks in the search results. This is because people tend to visit and create links to the top-ranked pages. We have addressed this problem by analyzing the previous content of web pages. Our approach is based on the observation that the quality of this content greatly affects link accumulation and hence the final rank of the page. We propose detecting the content that has the greatest impact on the link accumulation process of top-ranked pages and using it for detecting high quality but unpopular web pages. Such pages would have higher ranks assigned.

We have developed an application called My Portal Viewer (MPV)[1] that effectively integrates many articles collected from multiple news sites and presents these integrations through a familiar interface such as a page the user has often visited. MPV dynamically determines keywords of interest that a user might potentially be interested in based on the history of the articles the user has read and creates categories based on these interest words. MPV and many other similar integration systems, however, cause problems where users cannot find only their interest articles in each category because they are only ranked by frequency and the cooccurrence of keywords. We propose a new method of selecting further articles from each category using a user's impressions of articles. The improved MPV, called MPV Plus, selects and recommends more desirable articles using the method we propose. This paper presents the design concept and process flow of MPV Plus and reports on its effectiveness as evaluated in experiments.

Existing search engines contain the picture of the Web from the past and their ranking algorithms are based on data crawled some time ago. However, a user requires not only relevant but also fresh information. We have developed a method for adjusting the ranking of search engine results from the point of view of page freshness and relevance. It uses an algorithm that post-processes search engine results based on the changed contents of the pages. By analyzing archived versions of web pages we estimate temporal qualities of pages, that is, general freshness and relevance of the page to the query topic over certain time frames. For the top quality web pages, their content differences between past snapshots of the pages indexed by a search engine and their present versions are analyzed. Basing on these differences the algorithm assigns new ranks to the web pages without the need to maintain a constantly updated index of web documents.

We developed a novel web application called "My Portal Viewer (MPV)", which automatically categorizes and integrates meta-data from many news pages based on the user's preferences after gathering these news pages from various news sites. Our unique approach is based on two points: one is an automatic categorization of collected information based on user's interests and knowledge, and the other is the look and feel of the MPV page, which is applied to the user's favorite news portal page, and part of the original content is replaced by the integrated content. Whenever a user accesses the MPV page after browsing news pages, he/she can obtain the desired content efficiently because the MPV presents pages refreshed based on the user's behavior through his/her favorite page layout, which reflects his/her interests and knowledge. In this paper, we describe the MPV framework, and methods that are based on the user's preferences for replacing and categorizing content have been developed using an HTML table model and a vector matching model.

We propose a system called "Adaptation Anywhere&amp
Anytime(A3)", which is a framework for making web sites/applications adaptable to user's needs or interests, and we describe the implement of a web site on A3 by using XSLT. Web sites/applications built on A3 construct user ontologies for each user automatically and share them between sites/applications. Each site/application uses the user ontology to select an appropriate resource for the user and to present such resources in a suitable form. And A3 offers the method for constructing the adaptable web sites using XSLT. The author of web sites can easily make their sites adaptable by using XSLT.

An efficient search for image data from a number of nodes on the Internet requires low management and network traffic generated by forwarding over different nodes of key image for the query. We propose a key-image routing algorithm that can forward a key image only to the appropriate nodes for each user. The nodes are selected with a dynamic retrieval tree based on the users' behavior and network conditions. We describe how a key image is forwarded with the routing algorithm and evaluate the algorithm's effectiveness in a simulation. The network traffic was simulated for a variety of dynamic parameters that included network delay, matching rate for images, and the access and downloading rates for the user. The results showed that the network traffic of our algorithm was lower than those of two other key-image routing algorithms.

複数人が参加する会議の日時調整には，多大な労力が伴う．自身の期間内における空き時間の確認は，スケジュール表に記載されている活動だけでなく，前後の移動の有無，食事やリラックスなど記入されていない活動時間を考慮する必要がある．そこで，本研究では，スケジュールに加え，携帯端末上のアプリの使用履歴および位置情報からアクティビティを学習するLINEボットを生成し，ボットとユーザのDMによる調整ならびにボット同士による会議日時決定を代行する効率的な会議調整システムを提案する．本稿では，構築したLINEボットによる会議調整システムの有用性を検討する．

本研究は，移動中における楽曲推薦を目的とし，移動経路中に出現するスポットの雰囲気をツイートより抽出し，ユーザの視聴履歴より抽出した嗜好とスポットの雰囲気に類似した楽曲推薦手法を提案する．スポットはOSMのamenityカテゴリから抽出し，各スポットの周辺のSNSは位置情報付きツイートを収集し，スポットベクトルを生成する．また，歌ネットからアーティストとタイトルと歌詞を収集し，アーティストベクトルと視聴履歴よりユーザベクトルを生成する。これら3つのベクトルの類似度を算出し，楽曲を推薦する．本稿では，スポットの雰囲気抽出および楽曲推薦手法を検証する．

自転車用ナビゲーションアプリの多くは，目的地までの最短距離のルートを推薦している．自転車による荷物配送時は，距離や走行時間だけではなく日照や，路面状況に車体振動があたえる荷物への影響や肉体への負担を減らすことも考慮する必要がある．しかし，多くの自転車用ナビゲーションアプリは，距離や走行時間を指標としてルートを推薦しており，ルート上の日照状況や路面状況などの道路の走行環境は考慮していない．そこで，本研究は自転車から収集した走行環境データに基づいて道路の走行環境も考慮したルート推薦を行う自転車用ナビゲーションアプリの作成を目標とし，走行環境を考慮したルートを推薦するための走行環境データを収集・分析する機構の実装を行う．走行環境としては，日照状況と道路上の凹凸に着目し，スマートフォンのセンサから加速度，照度，位置情報データを収集する．収集したデータはクラウド上のサーバへ送信され，日照状況と道路上の凹凸を解析する．日照状況の判別処理では，照度の時系列データを正規化した後，閾値処理により判別を行う．道路上の凹凸の判別処理では，鉛直方向の加速度が急増している箇所を閾値処理で求めることで判別を行う．それぞれの判別結果を位置情報と併せて蓄積することで，将来的にナビゲーションアプリへの活用が期待できる．評価では，日向と日陰が判別および，路面の凹凸の判別を評価し，スマートフォンから収集したセンサデータを用いて走行環境を推定できることを確認した．

本研究では，同形状の店舗や看板の多い地下街において，人の混雑状況をランド マークの目印として抽出することで，道案内やイベント推薦，災害時支援に利用 可能な人流情報を提案する．具体的にはまず，地下街に普及しているwifiルー ターを用いて，ユーザーの携帯端末から常時発信される電波強度をアクセスポイ ントで取得し，その電波強度を用いてアクセスポイントからユーザーの位置を測 定する．次に各アクセスポイントにおいて，一定時間かつ一定範囲内のユーザー 数から，滞在時間を算出し，混雑状況を判定する．閾値以上の場合，マップに混 雑情報として提示する．また，ジオタグ付ツイートデータも混雑指標として提示 する．本稿では，混雑判定手法および人流情報提示システムを提案し，また，ジ オタグツイートデータとの相関を比較検証する．

Twitter users can be kept up to date with current information from Twitter; however, users cannot obtain the most recent information, while they browse web pages since these are not updated in real time. Meanwhile, there are many events happen at any time such as crowded restaurants and time sales in different floors or areas at composite facilities in urban areas. To solve them, it is thought that an appropriate method is to detect tweets of small-scale facilities at a composite facility to enrich their traditional web pages. Therefore, we developed a tweet visualization system to support users grasp event happens over time and space from tweets while they browse any web pages based on spatio-temporal analysis of tweets. In order to detect and analyze tweets of a composite facility, the system maps geo-tagged tweets to web pages by matching their location names, and classifies the tweets into different categories of small-scale facilities by utilizing machine learning algorithms. Thus, the system can visualize tweets in a tag cloud is associated with a web page to help users immediately gain a quick overview of events through space and time while they browse this web page, and it can also effectively present a list of most related tweets to help users obtain more detailed information about events. In this paper, we discuss our spatio-temporal analysis method and we have also included an evaluation of tweet classification into small-scale facilities and tag cloud generation that feature words of tweets are changed over time.

Pub/Sub communication model becomes a basis of various applications, e.g., IoT/M2M, SNS. These application domains require new properties of the Pub/Sub infrastructure, for example, supporting a large number of devices in a widely distributed manner. In order to meet the demands, we proposed Scalable Pub/Sub System using OpenFlow Controller, which we call SDN Aware Pub/Sub (SAPS). SAPS utilizes the both Application Layer Multicast (ALM) and OpenFlow based multicast (OFM). A simulation was done for evaluating the hybrid architecture in traffic and transmission delay reduction. The result shows that in the tree topology, even if it has only 100 subscribers, OFM can reduce inter-cluster traffic 71.6% with 16 clusters compared to ALM-LA. It can also reduce maximum inter-cluster hops 87.5%. On the other hand, with only 100 subscribers, almost all of switches are involved in the OFM tree construction and consume flow table space for the topic. It indicates that our hybrid approach is effective in Pub/Sub optimization considering the resource limitation of OpenFlow switches.------------------------------This is a preprint of an article intended for publication Journal ofInformation Processing(JIP). MOOC is a crucial platform for improving education
students are able to obtain various educational presentation contents through the Web. Recently, Prezi introduced a zoomable canvas as a substitute to the traditional presentations that allows users to zoom in and out of the presentation media. Teachers then attempt to provide presentations in a nonlinear fashion for enhancing the user interaction through these presentations
however, creation of nonlinear presentations would be time-consuming, besides posing design challenges. Therefore, we have developed a novel support system for grasping overviews of presentation slides, it generates a meaningfully structured presentation, called iPoster
this enables users to automatically navigate through the slide-based educational contents. The system places elements such as text and graphics of presentation slides in a structural layout by semantically analyzing the slide structure. The structural layout can reveal the hierarchy of elements based on topic structure by moving from the overview to a detail using automatic transitions, such as zooms and pans. Through this, the iPoster can support students to interactively browse online presentation slides for grasping an overview
it would substantially help the students navigate the presentation slides effectively for their learning purposes. In this paper, we discuss our interactive poster (iPoster) generation method and we have also included an evaluation of our method’s effectiveness.

本稿では,あるネーミングについて多義的なレシピ・コンセプトを抽出するための手法を提案する.具体的には,レシピの内容において重要な要素である材料や調理器具とこれらの追加,削除,および代替に着目することにより,6つの観点(材料追加,材料削除,材料代替,調理器具追加,調理器具削除,調理器具代替)からなるレシピ・コンセプトを抽出する.これらの6つの観点に着目することで,「子供が喜ぶ」というネーミングについては,材料追加は子供が好きな食材を使用していること,材料削除は子供が嫌いな食材を使用していないこと,材料代替は子供が苦手な食材を他の食材で代替していること,調理器具追加は手順にひと手間加えて子供が喜ぶ形にしていること,調理器具削除は子供を待たせないように調理手順を省略していること,調理器具代替は手持ちの調理器具を使用していることといった意味を推定できる.

本研究では，ツイート発信ユーザとWebページ閲覧ユーザに対して実空間の位置情報を付帯したツイートとWebコンテンツの内容を対応付けることで，異なる場所で異なるメディアを利用しているユーザ同士が効果的に双方向通信可能な，位置情報に基づくリアルタイム通信システムの構築を目指す．特に本論文ではツイートユーザとWeb閲覧ユーザが場所に基づいて関連する内容に関して，リアルタイムにメッセージを送受信できることで，Web閲覧ユーザは静的なページからは得られない情報をツイートユーザから受動的に得ることが可能となり，場所に関する現状を把握できる．

四輪車より歩道側を走ることが多い二輪車は四輪車と比べ，歩行者との接触等の危険性が高い．そこで本研究では，twitterから歩行者が密集した場所を推測しルート上に提示する，二輪車の安全を考慮したナビゲーションを開発する．具体的には，まずGoogleカレンダーから経由地や目的地を抽出し，これまで我々が開発した通常のルート推薦を行う．次に，GPS情報をtwitterで収集・分析しルート上に提示する．そして，ルート上の交差点付近のツイート同士の畳込み積分値を算出し，交差点上に密集度を大小の円で示す．本提案システムにより，二輪車と歩行者との接触事故等を抑制できるナビゲーションが実現できる．

近年、スマートフォンなどを用いていつでもナビゲーションシステムを利用することができる。しかし、歩行者や二輪車で走行しながら携帯機器を操作し経路を確認することは危険を伴う。そこで、新たなナビゲーション方法として、ランドマークとして機能する建造物に着目し、経路上から良く見えるランドマークを事前に教示することで、記憶しやすく携帯機器を再確認する頻度を減らすことのできるシステムを提案する。本稿では、本システムの実現のために必要な、都市GIS情報から自動的にランドマークを決定し、道路上の任意の地点におけるランドマークの可視性を表すデータベースを構築し、経路探索するアルゴリズムを提案する。

Nowadays, mutual evaluation in education is an available method that students in the learning community use to evaluate each other. The method calculates scores of students&#039; reports by considering who evaluates those reports. In this paper, we propose a student&#039;s mutual evaluation method using the PageRank algorithm, an appropriate evaluation method that helps teachers to easily understand whose report is the best from the students&#039; viewpoints. In particular, we perform students&#039; mutual evaluation based on a groupware by utilizing a &quot;Like&quot; function in a course practice. As a result, it was able to not only provide an overall rating from the students&#039; sum of votes but also, by considering who voted, to promote the reliability of the students as evaluators for their mutual evaluation.

聴覚障害者には抽象的な語彙が獲得されにくいや，生活に必要な語彙であっても獲得されない語彙がある．そのため，聴覚障害者と健聴者では，同じテキスト（新聞記事やブログ記事）からでも受ける印象が異なる可能性がある．本研究では，まず聴覚障害者を対象としたアンケート調査を行い，新聞記事から感じる印象データを収集する．また，収集した印象データを分析し，聴覚障害者と健聴者がテキストから受け取る印象の違いを比較する．最後に，比較結果に基づいて聴覚障害者のコミュニケーション支援に向けた課題を検討する．

近年,ソーシャルネットワークをはじめとして,ネットワークグラフ構造分析の必要性が高まっており,大規模グラフ解析の研究が活発に行われている.我々の研究グループでは,TwitterにおけるTweet間の関係や,WebページとWebページを閲覧するユーザなど,頻繁に変化する大規模グラフをリアルタイムに分析することで,ネットワークグラフの最新動向を反映した分析結果を得ることを目指している.本稿では,遅延を許容して計算されてきたランキング計算をリアルタイムに行った場合に,どの程度の規模であれば実用的な時間で処理可能かについて調査を行った.本稿では,広く用いられているJavaによって実装された検索エンジンを利用してシステムを構築したが,その結果C++で記述された高性能なランキング計算処理へのデータ受け渡し部分がボトルネックとなるため,データ受け渡しが不要になるJavaによるランキング計算処理の実装と比較を行った.現時点では小規模なグラフへの適用可能性は確認できたが,大規模なグラフへの適用はまだ行えておらず,今後検証する必要がある.

本論文では，「楽しい⇔悲しい」，「うれしい⇔怒り」，「のどか⇔緊迫」という３種類の印象を対象に，テキストを読んだ人々が感じる印象の強さを数値的に求めるための手法を提案する．印象の強さ（すなわち印象値）を算出するためには，テキストから抽出される特徴量がテキストの印象に及ぼす影響力を数値化し，印象辞書に登録しておく必要がある．このような印象辞書は，従来，印象の種類ごとに構築され，それぞれの印象値を算出するためにだけ用いられるが，本論文では，それぞれの印象が独立ではない点に着目し，各印象辞書を用いて算出されるテキストの印象値から，それぞれの印象値を算出し直すという新たなアプローチを試みる．具体的には，テキストから抽出する特徴量として，単語 unigram と単語 bigram の２種類を定義し，既存手法を用いて新聞記事データベースから６つの印象辞書（３種類の印象×２種類の特徴量）を構築する．各印象辞書を用いて算出されるテキストの印象値を説明変数（６個），アンケート調査に基づいて数値化されるテキスト本来の印象値を目的変数とする重回帰分析を印象の種類ごとに行い，それぞれの対応関係を重回帰式という形で定式化する．未知データに対する提案手法の精度を５分割交差検定により調べてみたところ，それぞれの印象における平均誤差は，１～７の７段階評価尺度に対して 0.68，0.57，0.62 であり，その有効性が確認された．

本稿では，「楽しい⇔悲しい」，「うれしい⇔怒り」，「のどか⇔緊迫」という3種類の印象を対象に，新聞記事を読んだ人々が感じる印象の強さを数値的に求めるための印象マイニング手法を提案する．提案手法は，各々の印象に対して「（左側の印象を）感じる（1点），割と感じる（2点），やや感じる（3点），（どちらの印象も）感じない（4点），（右側の印象を）やや感じる（5点），割と感じる（6点），感じる（7点）」という7段階の評価スケール（本稿では，印象尺度と呼ぶ）に準じた1.0～7.0の実数値を出力する．このような手法の設計に際し，記事から抽出される特徴量（単語unigram）とあらかじめ定義した特定の印象語群との（記事内）共起関係に基づいて各印象尺度用の印象辞書（各単語unigramの記事印象への影響力を示すもの）を構築し，それぞれの印象辞書を用いて算出される記事の印象値とその記事を読んだ人々が感じる印象の強さとの対応関係を定式化することで，共起関係という読み手が介在しない方法で算出される記事の印象値を読み手が感じる印象の強さへと変換することを試みる．本手法の未知データに対する誤差（RMSE：Root-Mean-Square Error）を5分割交差検定により調べてみたところ，それぞれの印象尺度に対し0.60，0.49，0.52であった．従来手法の誤差は0.69，0.49，0.64であり，「うれしい⇔怒り」に対しては同じ誤差を保ちつつ，「楽しい⇔悲しい」と「のどか⇔緊迫」に対する誤差が大幅に改善されているのがわかる．

近年，Web上に蓄積されるデータ量が加速度的に増加・大規模化する中，それらを効率良く構造化し，利活用するためのサービスが求められている．例えば，Google Street Viewは，世界規模で主要道路における全方位画像を数メートル間隔で蓄えており，ユーザは地図上で見たい地点をクリックするだけでその画像にアクセスすることができる．我々は，このようなサービスが成功する条件として，大規模データが効率よく構築できること，および，構築した大規模データを効果的に利用できることが必須と考え研究を進めてきた．ところが，実世界地図データや3次元データ等の大量データでは，両方の条件を満たすようなサービスがなく，普及しているとはいい難い．本講演では，このような視点に基づき，Webの大量データを用いたサービスが成功する条件について考察すると同時に，我々が上記データを対象として，これまで取り組んできた研究事例について紹介する．Recently, efficient construction and utilization of massive data on the Web is strongly required. The authors have been researched on that area more than decade especially with geographic data, car-mounted video data and 3D data of real objects. In this talk, several solutions with actual applications and future direction of the projects are shown.

検索サービスに代表されるPageRankは,ページ間のハイパーリンク関係より遷移確率行列を形成することで,大量のページに対するランキングを実現している.しかしながら,近年増加の一途を辿るブログやツイッターに代表されるCGMコンテンツは,情報から情報に対するリンクだけでなく,ユーザに対してもリンクが形成されており,従来の情報間のリンク構造によるランキングモデルでは対応が困難である.そこで,本研究では,情報とユーザとの関係性を分析することで,情報だけでなくユーザをも含めた遷移確率行列を作成し,情報とユーザとを同時にかつ瞬時に検索できるリアルタイムランキングモデルを提案する.本稿では,これまで開発したユーザとページを発見し,ページ上でコミュニケーションが行えるつながる検索システムに基づき,ページとページ,ページとユーザ,ユーザとユーザとの関係からなるグラフと,それに対応する行列形成法およびランク値算出法について提案する.また,評価実験を行い,ページとユーザとの同時ランキング手法について検討する.

我々の研究グループでは,情報検索およびソーシャルコミュニケーションの双方の利点を活かした検索システムを提案している.提案システムではPageRankアルゴリズムを拡張し,各ページ間のリンクに対して閲覧者のアクセス数とアクセス時間を考慮した重み付けを付与するランキング計算手法を用いる.提案するランキング計算手法で必要となる固有値計算を高速化するため,本研究ではOpen MPIおよびPETScを用いた並列計算ライブラリSLEPcの適用可能性について調査した.SLEPcに実装されたLanzcos, Arnoldi, Krylov-Schurという計算手法について評価した結果,8コア程度のPCで数十万規模の遷移確率行列の固有値および固有ベクトルの計算が数十秒で完了できることを確認した.

我々はこれまで検索とソーシャルコミュニケーションの双方の利点を活せるサービスとして,閲覧ユーザの数に基づいてリランキングされるWEB検索と,同一ページ閲覧者と即時的なコミュニケーションが行えるシステムを組み合わせたソーシャルサーチサービスを提案してきた.これによって情報をwebページからだけでなく,その情報について関心や知識のあるユーザからもコミュニケーションを通じて得ることが出来ようになった.提案したシステムではユーザのページ閲覧情報を用いて検索結果をリランキングしている.本稿では,リアルタイムアクセスユーザだけでなく,過去にアクセスしたユーザも考慮することでより多くのユーザ評価を反映できる知識獲得支援システムを提案する.また,ユーザ間の会話だけでなくページ対して手軽にアノテーションすることで暗黙的に情報支援を実現する新たな機能を構築する.さらに,既存の検索サービスのアクセスログを解析し,既存検索サービスと提案システムとの比較により提案手法の有用性を検証する.
