Profile

He was born in Toyokawa-city, Pref. Aichi, Japan. He received his each B.E, M.E, and Ph.D. from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan, in 2007, 2009, and 2012, respectively. He joined in College of Information Science and Engineering, Ritsumeikan University as a research associate in 2012, a research assistant professor in 2013, an assistant professor in 2014, and a lecturer in 2018. During this period, he visited the laboratory of computational intelligence of UBC, Canada as a visiting assistant professor. e joined in Faculty of Informatics, Kansai University as an associate professor in 2020 and  a professor in 2024. He is interested in the content-oriented computational culture and arts like music informatics, comic computing, game informatics, and computational gastronomy foods and eating activities. He is a member of IEICE, IPSJ, JSAI, JSKE, ASJ, SAS, ACM and ACL.

    The goal of this study is to develop an exploratory search system for sound effects (SEs). SEs appreciably influence viewers' impressions of a scene in a movie
    thus, SE editors must skillfully select the most appropriate SEs for each scene. Existing SE search methods, however, have three main difficulties involving the diversity of SE purposes, the representation of sound using text, and the conceptualization of SEs for a given scene. These difficulties lead to inefficient SE searches because the SE editor is forced to perform repeated searches. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a framework for SE exploration under multiple perspectives. In the framework, similarities among SEs are provided to the searcher as clues for exploration. The similarities are defined by three types of features: context, acoustic features, and symbol of onomatopoeia. This paper presents the details of the framework, a system developed with the framework, function and interaction provided by the system, and the results of user observation with the system.

    Websites and magazines are now becoming more useful for general people to cook a dish everyday. Sometimes, we have inconvenience for such information because the listed ingredients in the recipe can not be prepared. This paper proposes a recommendation method of alternative ingredients towards such situation. The recommendation is realized by considering co-occurrence of ingredients on recipe database and ingredient category stored in a cooking ontology. The subjective evaluation experiments showed 88% appropriateness for the alternative-ingredients recommended by our proposed method. Also, the recommended ingredients were used in a real cooking, the good tastes were confirmed through the workshop.

    This paper describes an index and target periods to generate a novel abstract for each reading progress. As reading a long novel, the reading is often interrupted as putting a bookmark into the book. Sometimes, the information described in the read part is forgotten away from the reader's memory. Then the abstract for each reading progress is effective to remind the reader of the story. The goal of this study is to automatically generate the abstract for each reading progress. In this paper, the difference of the word importance before and after bookmark is considered as the index to select the sentences for the abstract. Also, from where the sentences should be selected is compared as discussing the output results. Through the experiment, it was confirmed that the abstract in which the sentences were selected from the period just before the bookmark was better than the abstract generated from all part of the past story. Moreover, it was suggested that not paragraphs but sentences might be appropriate unit to generate the abstract for each reading progress.

    More and more people choose to learn Japanese as a foreign language (JFL) in the world. The traditional teaching materials have focused on training for the skills of writing and reading in Japanese. However, it seems that the JFL learners would like to train their speaking and listening rather than writing and reading because the speaking and listening are necessary to make conversations. We use Japanese animation which is called "Anime" in the world as a new teaching material of Japanese. Anime has a huge amount of scenes in which characters speak with their voice in the standard and clear pronunciations. It means that Anime has many good examples of Japanese dialogues for JFL learners to improve their speaking and listening. The goal of our research is to propose a new method to classify dialogues in Anime depending on the dialogues' degrees of difficulty. In this paper, we analyzed the words and expressions used in the Anime dialogues and the scripts of listening tests of the previous Japanese Language Proficiency Tests (JLPT). Each word and expression were classified into different Japanese language levels. We used the analysis results of JLPT as a standard reference to be compared with Anime dialogues. The analysis results showed that the genres of Anime had effects on using words and expressions. We also found that the scripts of listening tests of high-level included many high-level words and expressions.

    Image database is one of the important research topics in image recognition. A manual collection of images would causes biased collection and a lot of human efforts. Huge image database where varied and many unbiased objects are stored is required for the image learning. Recent researches for image database try to automatically/semi-automatically generate image database. Here, it is important to remove noise images and this paper proposes an automatic generation method of the Web image database. The proposed method uses noise image removal by visual feature and semantic feature in a hybrid. However, which type of features, and how to combine the two types of feature are not clear and should be investigated. In this paper, six kinds of noise image detection method are prepared: The method using visual feature, the method using semantic feature, two methods using both features in parallel and two methods using both features in serial. Through the comparison in experiments, it was confirmed that the method using both visual and semantic features in parallel focusing on noise images showed over 82% Precision values, 76% Recall values and 77% F-measure values in average. Also, the usability of the generated database for image recognition was confirmed through the experiments
    It was equal to or higher than the human-made database. It was confirmed that the proposed method constructed precise image database full-automatically.

    This paper describes the effectiveness comparison of noise removal method using visual, semantic and the both features. To automatically generate image dataset from Web, noise image removal should be conducted. Visual and semantic features are available to detect noise images. However, which type of features, and how to combine the two types of feature are unraveled. In this paper, six types of noise image detection method are prepared: the method using visual feature, the method using semantic feature, two methods using both features in parallel and two methods using both features in serial. Through the comparison experiments, it was confirmed that the method that used both visual and semantic features in parallel focusing on noise images: the method showed 77.5% F-measure values.     Japanese has more variety of expressions for food; the expressions have been changed through the times. In Japanese, " metaphor," "onomatopoeia," and "adjectives generally not for food" are often used to express the taste and texture of food. Which and how the expression is used depends on individual sensibility based on location and generation; especially, the youngers sometimes use new expressions. Since, it is difficult to extract Japanese taste and texture expressions from Web reviews based on a fixed dictionary. This paper proposes an interactive framework to collect Japanese taste and texture expressions for food. Using the proposed framework, varied and many expressions would be semi-automatically collected. Based on the collected expressions, the sentiment analysis for food will be facilitated.     This paper describes linguistic features of generally unreadable person names, which are defined as "<I>KIRAKIRA</I> names," and proposes a method to detect <I>KIRAKIRA</I> names based on the features. Through the discussions, the following eight features are founded as the linguistic features of <I>KIRAKIRA</I> names: 1) Too many Kanji characters, 2) Too many syllables, 3) Multiple usage of a common Kanji character, 4) Kanji variants are used, 5) The pronunciation of Kanji is generally unknown, 6) Too many stroke count for Kanji, 7) Mismatching of gender between a person and the name, and 8) The pronunciation of name equals an imported word. Based on the features, <I>KIRAKIRA</I> names are automatically detected by using Support Vector Machine. The experiments to detect <I>KIRAKIRA</I> names were conducted for 10,000 names. The results of the experiments showed 81.79% accuracy, 76.89% precision, and 91.84% recall.

    It is more difficult to activate text based discussions than face-to-face discussions because participants tend to hesitate give their opinions. To activate text based discussions, it is necessary for participants to give their opinions many times. We suppose that participants will give their opinions if questions are thrown to discussions.
    This paper proposes an agent that throws questions automatically in text based discussions. The questions are generated from comments posted by discussion participants previously in a discussion. The agent chooses a comment including a word that appears frequently in previous posted comments. The agent adds "why" or "how" to the beginning of the chosen comment, then the agent throws the comment as a question to the discussion participants. We experimentally verified that the agent could activate discussions by throwing questions.

    Many people often cook a dish with a cooking recipe on Websites and magazines. The listed ingredients in the recipe sometimes can not be prepared. This paper proposes a recommendation system for alternative ingredients. The recommendation ingredients based on co-occurrence frequency of ingredients on recipe database and ingredient category stored in a cooking ontology. The result of the subjective evaluation experiments showed 88% appropriateness for alternative-ingredients recommendation.

    This paper proposes a hybrid approach of ontology and image clustering to automatically generate hierarchic image database. In the field of computer vision, "generic object recognition" is one of the most important topics. Generic object recognition needs three types of research: feature extraction, pattern recognition, and database preparation
    this paper targets at database preparation. The proposed approach considers both object semantic and visual features in images. In the proposed approach, the semantic is covered by ontology framework, and the visual similarity is covered by image clustering based on Gaussian Mixture Model. The image database generated by the proposed approach covered over 4,800 concepts (where 152 concepts have more than 100 images) and its structure was hierarchic. Through the subjective evaluation experiment, whether images in the database were correctly mapped or not was examined. The results of the experiment showed over 84% precision in average. It was suggested that the generated image database was sufficiently practicable as learning database for generic object recognition.

    Lyrics influence human affection toward music as same as the acoustics. All phrases in a lyric are not remembered; there are some "attractive phrases" in lyrics. This paper proposes a method to detect attractive phrases from musical lyrics focusing on typical expressions on lyrics that are uncommon in natural document. Through the interview on impression for lyrics, "uniqueness of co-occurred terms" and "repetition" were founded as typical expressions that significantly attracted human. Therefore, these expressions were modeled as mathematical features. The proposed method detected attractive phrases using support vector machine with the modeled features. The results of the model evaluation experiments showed the 69% accuracy and 86% precision. The detected results were compared and discussed with the key sentences detected by using the existing summarization methods. As the result of the comparison, it was concluded that the proposed method detected attractive phrases more accurate than the existing summarization methods.

    Comic has, recently, been known as one of the most beloved entertainment and affective medium in the world. This paper describes about extraction of Kansei highlight from comic using social data. There seems to be Kansei highlight that most people approve in comic, because several related books where impressive scenes and captions for a comic are gathered are published. Through the experiments on impressions, we obtained social data for comics. We used the social data to extract Kansei highlight from comic. Through the three types of experiments, we confirmed that social data was available for extracting Kansei highlight from comic. Moreover, we designed the interface of social reading system for comic considering interaction on existing social service. We believe that the extraction of Kansei highlight from comic using social data increases attraction of digital comic.

    This paper proposes a method to detect KIRAKIRA (KK) Japanese names that mean strange and unusual names. The proposed method focuses on usage of Kanji characters such as number of characters and syllables, unknown pronunciation of Kanji, number of stroke count for Kanji and mismatching of gender and Kanji. Based on the above features, KK names are automatically detected by using Support Vector Machine. Through the experiments to detect KK names, it was confirmed that the proposed method well detect KK names for 81.8% accuracy, 76.9% precision, and 91.8% recall.

    This paper proposes a recommendation method of alternative-ingredients based on co-occurrence relation on recipe database. Currently, dishes are often cooked with reference to recipes on Website. Convenience to access so many and varied recipes encourages beginners to cook. Recipe on Website list ingredients used for a dish. However, for some reason, some of the listed ingredients cannot be used for the cooking; this paper defines such ingredient as "exchange-ingredient." To cook a dish, it should alternate exchange-ingredient and another one (i.e., alternative-ingredient). This paper proposes two algorithms to recommend alternative-ingredient.     In this paper, we proposed a BGM assignment method to story segments using emotion dictionary. For segmentation of a story, we used information of characters appearing in a story. Changes of appearing characters and characters' sentiment information are used for segmentation. We prepared syntactic patterns for identification of characters and extraction method of sentiment information. For assignment of BGM to story segments, we extracted sentiment descriptions from story segments and recognized sentiment type of the segments using Emotion Description Dictionary. Detected sentiment information of a segment will be used to generate emotion vector.
    In the experiments, accuracy of segmentation was not good enough, but we could obtain helpful direction to improve our method, which is to use time and space information. For sentiment information detection, emotion vector model worded well although there are some problems in pattern patching of sentiment expression using Emotion Description Dictionary.

    Acoustic information of speech disappears in text communication. In Comic, readers can recognize nuance of character voice from speech balloon shape, which expresses characters' nuance, emotion and intention. We have developed speech balloon database from various genres of Comic magazines and analyzed speech balloon data used in character conversation expressions. We classified speech balloon types and analyzed serif descriptions using tf-idf method. As an elemental study to communicate acoustic information using speech balloon shape in text communication, this paper basically studies relationships between serif description of balloon and speech balloon shape. We have extracted some typical linguistic expressions for each speech balloon type. We discussed some typical words, symbols, and expressions were strongly related with some speech balloon types.

    Preparation of a training image dataset used for the genetic object recognition system needs a lot of costs. Some datasets were recently created from Web image sharing services like Flickr, but examples which utilize a semantic classification or information of tags given to photos are quite few. This paper proposes an automatic generation method of an image dataset by introducing semantics of each label given to images, where the images are positioned in a semantic stratification according to the meaning of labels. Here the semantic stratification consists of IS-A relations, where "Animal" locates in a upper concept of "Dog" and "Cat". By using an image dataset with conceptual information like this, a computer will be able to recognize objects pictured in photos from a wide concept like "Animal" or "Vehicle" to narrower concepts gradually. In experiments, 47,910 photos were automatically classified into 183 classes which were aligned in a stratified tree. An evaluation test of the labels was performed manually for the generated image dataset and it was confirmed that most of labeling were reasonably collected.

    Harmful documents make readers unpleasant on the Web. In order to hide the harmful documents from the public, machine learning methods have been proposed, which learn words used in harmful documents and hide them automatically. The learned words often have bad meanings. Though word meanings are not changed, word impression may be changed on context. Even if a word with bad impression is contained in a document, the previous learning methods can not learn the word, and fail to hide documents. We select the following approach: word impression may be changed on context. If a word has been used with other words of good meaning, it is considered that impression of the word is also good. In contrast, if a word has been used with others of bad meaning, impression of the word may be bad. This paper proposes a new extraction method of harmful comments in a thread of a Bulletin Board System. The proposed method extracts comments using word meanings and word impression on thread context. We evaluated the proposed method using comments collected from four threads in Japanese BBS "2-channel." The averaged precision of extraction was 0.47, and the averaged recall was 0.68. We verified that the proposed method was suitable for extraction of harmful comments from a thread of a BBS.

    This paper describes a method to detect evaluation points from freely written Web review for overviewing review structure. In freely written review, evaluation points and relationships between these points are unclear. We consider that overviewing Web review structure helps us to understand review documents. Based on our experiments, we confirmed that the proposed method detected evaluation points to be presented with high precision without dependence on kinds of evaluation target. Moreover, our proposed method realized to present relationships among evaluation points to be presented referring syntax features that were used to detect evaluation points to be presented.

    New products are frequently launched in the world. Most of new products can be assumed as combinations of existing products. All of the combinations do not always become seeds of new selling product. Each existing product has functions. A new function may be thought up by combining two existing products. If a thought up function is feasible, a combination may be a seed of new selling product. This paper proposes a feasibility evaluation system of function obtained by product combination for supporting idea creation of new product. The system makes phrases representing new functions obtained by product combination. The system evaluates whether each of new functions is feasible or not. The system outputs combinations with feasible functions. We experimented with the proposed system, and obtained two findings: (1) Ideas of high novelty were obtained from combinations with functions of low feasibility. (2) Ideas of high utility were obtained from combinations with two new feasible functions.

    This paper describes a method for detecting affectively comparable terms. Comparable terms are often handled as sample objects instance in order to enrich linguistic expression, and using such terms explains and describes descriptions well. Coordinate terms in hierarchical knowledge are potentially comparable terms. Hierarchical coordinate terms are however sometimes affectively inappropriate as comparable term, because hierarchical knowledge is constructed by using only semantics without affections. We obtained the affections of terms obtained from blog and innovated them into hierarchical knowledge in order to detect affectively comparable terms. We conduct experiments to detect affectively comparable terms and discuss results, from which, we confirmed that affectively comparable terms could be detected by our proposed method.     In this paper, we propose a method to navigate getting a correct answer for Question Answering (QA) system using user interaction. QA is a technology which extracts appropriate answer strings for a given question sentence from huge documents such as Web, newspaper articles etc. If a given question is ambiguous, answers will be various ones according to its possible understandings and retrieved documents with query words of the question sentence will consists of various types of information. In order to focus on intended topic, it is necessary to provide more information to narrow down search area for a question. In our approach, a QA system selects a clue word to decide an appropriate topic from topics in retrieved documents and interacts with a user whether this clue word is appropriate one or not. Then, search space will be reduced using this clue word. However, such narrowing down reduces the number of answer candidates because the number of target documents will be decreased. We will re-retrieve documents using this clue words and expand search space to increase possibility of getting correct answer candidates. (C) 2013 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

    In this paper, we describe a method to detect semantical-coordinate terms. We often use semantical-coordinate terms as objects of comparative validation and examples for the given term, and then linguistic expressions and knowledge processing are enriched. Semantical-coordinate terms should be hyponyms of a same hypernym, and their usage and concepts should be similar. However hierarchical knowledge is useful to view concepts, hierarchically coordinate terms are sometimes inappropriate as semantical-coordinate terms for our suppositions, because some of them might have multiple hypernyms and general perceptions of the terms are not taken in the consideration. On the other hand, using only Web context to detect semantical-coordinate terms, concepts of the terms are not taken in the consideration while public perceptions and their usages might be incorporated. Therefore we propose hybrid method using both hierarchical knowledge and Web snippets. We conducted bench scale tests to detect semantical-coordinate terms of some terms and discuss about the results in this paper. Through the tests and discussions, we confirmed that the semantical-coordinate terms detected by our proposed method were not only hierarchically but also semantically and intuitively appropriate. © 2013 The Authors.

    Many recent studies have focused on dialogue communication. In this paper, our target is to make a robot support a communication between humans. To support a communication between humans, we believe that there are two important functions: estimating dialogue moods and behaving suitably. In this paper, we propose dialogue mood estimation model using the utterance intervals. The proposed estimation model is composed by relating the subjective evaluations for several adjectives with the utterance intervals features. Through the estimation experiments, we confirmed that the proposed system could estimate the dialogue moods with a high degree of accuracy, especially for "excitement," "seriousness," and "closeness." And we suggested that the utterance intervals features had a high potential for the dialogue mood estimation. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012.

    Recently, we have so many songs due to a large capacity of storage, however it becomes difficult to select the song using bibliographic data. In this paper, we propose Kansei song selection system based on music fluctuation features which named YSSS. In this system, the acoustic fluctuation features that show time variations of music are extracted from each songs, and the Kansei evaluations of the song are obtained through the subjective evaluation experiments. Then the features and the evaluations are related to each other, and the estimation spaces for Kansei evaluations are constructed. Using this estimation spaces, the Kansei evaluations are labeled with the songs. We proposed two types of song selection method, Exactly-Matching and Tolerant-List which considers the tolerance of human instinct. Through the subjective evaluation experiment, we confirmed the correct song selection and the contentment with proposed system. Furthermore, we confirmed that proposed system with Tolerant-List method shows better usability.

    We have so various types of entertainment, and music is one of the most popular one. In this paper, we proposed music recommendation system that interactively adapts a user's personal affection with only a simple operation, in which both acoustic and meta features are used. The more a user uses the proposed system, the better the system adapts the user's personal affection and recommends the suitable songs. Through the evaluational experiment, we confirmed that the proposed system could recommend songs adapting user's personal affection even if the personal affection variated. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

    In this paper, we propose a system which plays an appropriate beat music to dance, which is one of emotional self-expressions using human motions. Dancers presently have a limitation on their expressions because they have to determine their rhythm considering given music; we believe that dancers can express their own emotions more freely without the consideration. The proposed system focuses and obtains "the human motion rhythm," and automatically plays a beat music based on the rhythm. In this paper, we conducted comparative experiments for extracting rhythm method: the method focusing on "periodicity of human motions" and "key poses: the stop motions." Performance evaluation results showed that the beat music played by the proposed system focusing on periodicity of human motions was well harmonized with the human rhythmic motion for a beat per minute, and it worked well for different human motions. Results of subjective evaluation suggested that the proposed system played the beat music which rhythm was appropriate to the dance.

    We studied the relationships between the acoustic fluctuation properties of music and the emotional evaluations of music as a component technology for an automated song selecting system based on instinct and human emotion. When people listen to music, they select songs reflect their own feelings at the time, and then they emotionally evaluate the song. We believe that our emotional evaluation of songs are influenced by the fluctuation properties of both the volume and pitch of songs. Thus, we focused on the fluctuation properties containing dynamic ideas concerning music, and extracted thirty six fluctuation properties concerning both the volume and pitch from each song using the Fast Fourier Transform. We also prepared a subjective evaluation experiment for plural songs using the Semantic Differential method, and obtained an emotional evaluation of the songs. Then, we studied the relationships between the extracted properties and the emotional evaluations of the songs by conducting a multiple discriminant analysis. As a result, a high percentage of the questions were answered correctly and low discriminant errors were shown, and therefore, we suggested that the fluctuation properties of the songs influenced the emotional evaluations of them. Furthermore, we confirmed the especial properties related with the emotional evaluation of the music by taking into consideration the coefficients of the liner discriminants of the canonical variates that describe the discriminant spaces. © 2011 IEEE.

    Recently, we have a lot of musical pieces due to a large capacity of storage. However, it would be difficult to select the song with bibliographic data as the capacity of the music database increases. Therefore, we proposed an emotional song selection system. In this study, the Acoustic - Emotion model was composed by relating the acoustic fluctuation features that can explain the time variation of music with the emotional evaluations of music obtained through the subjective evaluation experiments. Based on the model, the emotional evaluations of music were calculated from their acoustic features. Using the proposed system, user can select the song with the adjective words and their degrees.

    We propose an automated composing system for sub-melodies focusing especially on pitch and rhythm. We constructed the system using a Hidden Markov Model (HMM). In a composing experiment, we obtained various melodies depending on the song set used for learning, and the results suggest that this system call learn the features of song sets that are selected while considering music genres, music culture, or nuances of composers.

    本研究では,電子書籍上での作事コンテンツを対象として,映像作品のようなストーリー情報の提示によって読書意欲の向上と内容理解の促進を実現する技術の開発を行っている.映像作品では,あらすじ,次回予告,振り返りといったストーリー情報を適宜提示することによって,作品に対する視聴意欲の向上や内容の
    理解を促していると考えられる.この情報提示方法を,電子書籍に取り入れることで活字コンテンツのエンターテイメント性を向上させ,活字離れ問題の端緒とすることを狙っている.
    ストーリー情報を適切に提示するために,昨年度の基礎調査をもとに読書・視聴意欲が低下するおそれのある「ネタバレ」を避けた情報検索インタフェースを開発した.提案インタフェースでは登場人物の出現頻度情報を用いることで,登場人物の初登場シーン,活躍シーン,ストーリーの展開上大きな出来事の検索を支援する.さらに,ネタバレを事前に避けるためのインタラクティブなしかけの方法についても検討した.読者が読書意欲を低下する個人的な忌避事項を他ユーザと容易に共有可能なしくみ,既読部と未読部を判定するためのクイズを投稿および共有可能な仕組みを提案および実装した.提示すべき情報の抽出に関しては,物語の内容を掴むための概要ではなく,これから享受する物語を楽しむことにフォーカスした情報抽出の手法を提案した.
    これまでの研究成果については,査読付き学術論文誌1件,査読付き国際会議論文3件,国内研究会5件の発表を行った.また,昨年度に申請した特許に関連してJSTの新技術説明会においても講演を行った.

    本研究では,ユーザが音楽を検索する場面を想定し,ユーザの周辺コンテキストを入力としてそのコンテキストの感性や状況に合致した歌詞を検索することを目的としている.飲食店のBGM検索において店舗の雰囲気やテーマに沿った歌詞を検索することや,映像コンテンツの制作において映像中のストーリーの展開やコンテンツがもつ感性に合致した歌詞を検索することは,エンターテイメントコンテンツの利用が活発化する現代において益々重要性を増していくと考えられる.
    ユースケースを想定した場合,単語をクエリとして入力する従来の情報検索に比べて,ストーリー性をもった文章の入力となることが想定される.入力された文章全体を処理対象とする方法もある一方で,入力された情報からより重要な情報のみを抽出してユーザの要求を明確化する処理も考えられる.本年度は,後者のアプローチを実現するための要素技術の開発を行った.具体的には,昨年度に提案・検討した物語の進行や感情の変化を捉えるための単語重要度指標を洗練し,人間が文書を読み進めていく中で話の展開として重要となる単語を抽出するための指標を提案した.この指標を用いることで,歌詞のブロックごとに重要となる単語の抽出と共に,ユーザによって入力された文章の中からキーワードを抽出可能になる.昨年度までの研究で開発してきた単語やフレーズといった歌詞のレイヤーを超えた検索時に抽出されたキーワードを適用すれば,研究目的としているコンテキストに応じた歌詞検索の実現が期待される.
    また,歌詞検索は入力されたコンテキストと歌詞の感性を紐つけるend-to-endな問題としても捉えられる.ストーリー性(つまり,時系列情報)をもった情報同士をニューラルネットワークによって関係づけるための技術について,文章と同様の性質をもつ譜面を対象として,技術応用の可能性について検討を行い学術論文誌での発表を行った.

    To develop context-aware drive music recommender systems, we tackled the following three themes: (1) Methods for featurizing music tracks based on acoustic features and lyrics features, (2) Methods for extracting contexts from scenery images, (3) Methods for extracting context-dependent music preferences. Finally, we experimentally developed context-aware drive music recommender systems based on the results of the themse (1), (2), and (3), and evaluated its usefulness.

    Since comic is cross-modal content in which pictures and letters are used complementarily and cooperatively, it is necessary to store the contents of the comic in a structured manner in advance to make these contents available on the computer. In this research, information on digitalized comics was systematically encoded and hierarchically annotated in RDF format to meet the requirement. By referring to these annotation sets, the computer can search and process comic contents along with the user's intention.
    In addition, focusing on review sentences as clues to acquire the contents of comics, we proposed a method of acquiring topics by combining term frequency - inverse document frequency (tf-idf) method and hierarchical Latent Dirichlet Allocation (hLDA) method to classify comics. Using these data and methods, a comic question answering system and an exploratory comic search system are developed.

    The final goal of this research is to realize an adaptive song-play method with music query by melody recall in the brain for sports applications. Especially, in the short term goal, which is that of this research activity, we will propose a way of description of melodies in the brain, a method of music query suitable to user's current mental condition, and investigation of applicability of the results for sports applications. From this research, we obtained the following results. First, we proposed a description method of recalled melody in the brain with aggregations and feature extraction of the EEG data, Second, we also developed a method for extracting a human's mental state from EEG as well as a method for extracting music feeling only from song lyrics. Then, we showed that a melody consisting of a few pitches can be reconstructed with melody-recall in the brain. We also showed that a kansei music retrieval system is possibly realized in the future.
