    The aim of this paper is to open the door to a new perspective of Gerard Manley Hopkins' study, by making a comparison between Hopkins and Kenji Miyazawa. They look too different to be compared ; born in a different era, in a different country, and brought up to spend an eccentric life, in a different way. However, there are significant similarities in their life and their literary work. Mainly focusing on their poetic language, these three points are taken up here :the connection between their life and religion ; the association between their sister and the female figures in their work ; and the relation between their religious devotion and their companionship with nature. Inhabiting both religious and scientific realms, both poets formed an ideology of self-sacrifice that eventually created their own original， 'new-born' coinage. The core of the fascination of these poets is simple : Hopkins and Kenji had the courage of their convictions, of their 'passion' in their poetry, even in such deep desolation in their last years．

    Because of his experimental attempt to renovate poetical language in his early works, and of the creation of a new poetics in his mature and major work The Cantos, Ezra Pound is recognized as one of the most conspicuous and influential American poets in the twentieth century. Among the characteristics peculiar to his text, the most outstanding is his famous idea of 'ideogram'. It is a particular way of citation of, not only Chinese characters suggesting Confucianism, but also of diverse pronouns or historical facts or fragments, in the manner of collage. Such extravagant impression of Pound appears to be contradictory to the conservative British literary world which he had experienced and execrated in his London age, but it must be noted that his 'ideogram' has come from the Pre-Raphaelite 'emblem' idea. The connection has been overlooked by his critics and readers, but actually, in Pound's early writings, there are many allusions and comments on the Pre-Raphaelites, especially on Dante Gabriel Rossetti, the founder of the Brotherhood, as well as on his close friend Ford Madox Heuffer (Ford), the last Pre-Raphaelite. Through the comparison between Pound and the Pre-Raphaelite poets in terms of mediaevalism, this paper will consider their literary correspondence, and cast a new light on the development of young Pound's poetics.
